Shoes for 'getting colder' days and trousers

Hello - I had a problem with this last Autumn and am trying to be more prepared this year. I have calf length boots (black) for winter and two lots of suede ballet pump style shoes I wear with bare feet in summer (for work - skirt or trouser suit). However, I hate having cold feet. Is there anything I can wear with trousers when it's a bit colder? Last year I just wore socks with the ballet pumps and trousers and kind of hoped no-one noticed but I don't think this is really a good look. I am on my feet all day so want flats. Any ideas? Thanks.

In fear of Sounding like my mother, pop-socks in nude colour with your pumps?
(I am a bare foot in pumps straight to boots person)!

You need a transitional shoe. For me last spring, it was wedge desert boots.
This year, there are lots of options - wedges still but also loafers and brogues and ankle boots.

Thanks Helen, I hate this time of year for shoes and may have to buy some pop socks to see if they actually keep my feet warm. When do you switch to boots?

Ohhhh Marking my place on this thread. I am so stuck ATM with transitional footwear. I don't want to get my boots out just yet.

A transitional shoe? Okay, never bought one of those before. Any ideas of something I could wear with a tweedy trouser suit?

Marking with interest as my black shoes have just given up the ghost completely (water comes in through the soles). Do you reckon that you can wear socks with loafers? I'm not sure about brogues, I worry that they will end up looking like my school shoes, maybe if anyone has any pictures of them beeing worn by people who are not lanky teenage models that might help.

I want to like brogues, and those hamble ones from Clarks are so comfy, but I just don't think I can carry them off, sadly.

I just ordered those clarks ones! There is a 20% off code available I think until the 5th.

Last year I had a patent pair from next and they were rubbish - so uncomfortable - never managed to wear them in so they still give me blisters.
