Can you find me some 50's inspired material? help needed!

I'm getting married next year and being of advanced age a laid back couple who have been together a long time we don't want anything too formal.

A friend is making me a 50's style dress (think big skirt and petticoats) but I need to find the material to make it out of. I don't want it to be 'wedding' material, and certainly don't want white or cream. Instead i want a nice 50's style pattern! But where to find it? I live in the middle of nowhere so was hoping on line might be the answer, but the only stuff I've seen has been really expensive or not available in the quantities we need (which would be at least 3 metres).

Please help me!

sounds funny but have you tried Ebay? Lots of fabrics for sale there, and many for sale in the quanitites you require. I'm sure you will find 50's style patterns.

for example, this is a 50's pattern - not that you necessarily will like this particular one, but if you did, I would suggest contacting the seller and asking if they have 3 metres of it. I've done this before and quite often they have more than it would first appear.

Try searching for Kaufmann fabrics - often very 50's-ish.

Ah I never thought of contacting the seller, I just assumed they only had little bits as that's all they sell.

You would think I maybe could have worked that out for myself!

BTW love this material though not sure I could carry it off as a dress!

Gaga Fabrics have other fifties-style ones outside the Retro and Vintage category (from which the top two came).

vesela I love those prints, sadly the top one is out of stock (my DP would have loved it if i turned up in a dress made from that!)

Hadn't seen either of those websites so will spend some time checking them (and am pleased with the prices!)
