Overly-bleached hair after holiday looks naff!

My natural hair is a mousey-blonde which I've been home-highlighting (Nutrisse) for several years. We've just returned from a wonderful sunny holiday and my hair looks almost white and really chavvy with darker roots! The condition is good - I lavished conditioner on it daily - but the colour is truly horrible. Would it work to find a darker blonde hair dye to try to return it to a more natural colour or would the bleach react weirdly to the new dye? I really want to do this asap so any advice welcomed!! TIA

Go to a professional.

Years of home dyeing and then sun bleaching on top. I'd do nothing more til I had a colourist's advice.

Thanks, Eliza22. I was hoping to avoid the cost but I know that you're right. Any mistakes that I make at home would probably be even more expensive to correct!

my hair is same

had half head of highlights then 2 weeks in sun. ITS FUCKED

kerastes cannot save it

need a cut, and to go a share darker me dear

I've heard that using tomato ketchup as a hair mask can tone down highlighted hair after exposure to sun/sea. Never tried it myself, but might be worth a go!

You need to go professional otherwise you could end up 'ginger'. With my hair colour (with grey) home kits are a no go.

Get a tint (this works for me however you will find it fades) or get it dyed all over and have a few fine low lights to make it glow rich and warm for winter. white blond hi-lights are too out now.

Only a colourist would be able to sort this out. Putting on further home kit will give you an uneven colour as the bleached hair will soak up more than the roots.

Mine's the same - was darkish blonde with highlights, now harsh platinum.

I'm off to my colourist on Thursday to sort!

Yes, good advice everyone. I'll have to visit a salon - want to get it done asap because I'm back at school in a week and would rather return with it dyed!! Thanks for your comments.

I DID IT!! My haidresser had a cancellation this morning - it must have been FATE - and am now 'au natural'!! It's weird walking past a mirror because I keep doing a double-take. The colour is a dark blonde and matches the root area beautifully - no colour was put on the roots - so regrowth shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for everyone's support. x
