is this too casual for a ball?

I'm not really a 'ball' type of person so I need advice.

Is this too casual? How could I dress it up? Too boring?

To be honest the price is what attracted me, I'll very probably never wear it again so I don't want to spend a lot.

I think it would be fine. You could dress it up with some sparkly sandals, a nice clutch bag and some sparkly jewellery. Because it's black you could really have any colour but I would probably stick with diamante.

I've got silver sandals which I thought would be OK. Would you go for simple jewellery or more chunky (cuff etc?)

Depends on the ball tbh. I've been to some that it would be fine for, and some where it would not be dressy enough

Is it a jersey fabric? I think jersey is too casual for a ball. Depends on the event I suppose and the people gong. Can you tell us any more about it?

going...

I think it depends where the neckline of the dress sits and your shape. I tend to go for chunkier jewellery because delicate stuff is lost on my chunkier frame!

It's not a really posh do (it's a school ball) but it is black tie. I just don't want to spend a lot of money on something I'll probably never wear again.

It is very nice: a lovely, flattering shape and can be dressed up, as advised above.

Do any of your friends have a ballgown you could borrow? You're right, they are a lot of money.

If you live in Herts you can borrow mine, its just sitting in the wardrobe doing nothing-

If anyone is interested I did buy this dress and it arrived today. Wasn't expecting much at all but it's lovely. I was concerned about the fabric being described as 'jersey' but it's nothing like I expected, is very soft and swishy and doesn't look remoted jersey though does have a lot of 'give' in it. Fits like a glove, v flattering and I'm really pleased to have spent so little on a dress! Wearing it with silver 'blingy' sandals so now I need you to help me with jewellery!???
