I currently have a shoulder-length long-layered bob which desperately needs freshening up and I've been toying with a fringe because hair across my face riles me.

My home hairdresser (and friend) is currently being super-flaky, local shops are rude as hell (I'm foreign) and I can't afford 100 right now for a pro.

I work at home 90% of the time, but when I have to go in, it's very client facing. I have a big meeting at the end of the month and don't want to look like a bag lady.

I have poker straight fine hair.

Can I do this cut or will I look like a child of the 70's?

I have the MN haircut but I don't think I'd do it in your position, I did mine on my hip length hair making it waist length so I knew I had enough 'spare' to get it fixed if it went wrong.

Sorry, not probably what you want to hear but if it helps I'm very cautious.

I wouldn't do it with straight fine hair, because any "odd" bits will show. Mine looked a bit mullet-y for a while, but mine is thick and curly (the cut doesn't seem to take anything off the length, just puts more layers in it). What you might do is pull your hair into a pony tail at the front of your head, chop off a small amount, and snip, snip, snip into it, to give your layers a bit of a freshen up.

If you want a side fringe, look up "how to cut a side fringe" on YouTube, and follow instructions/video exactly. DD1 did this and it looked really good.

Thank you MrsS - that definitely sounds worth investigating. I did wonder if natural waves or curls would hide any errors. Hairdressers have told me in the past that my hair's a bugger to cut because any slight mistake shines like a beacon. :/

If I screw up the fringe I shall panic buy Kirby grips!
