Earrings: what are fashionable?

Want to buy earrings for a friends big birthday. Want something up to about £40 and need to get by Wednesday. Any ideas for something nice but fashionable - i've realised I don't have a clue!

They do really nice ones in Accessorize. Wouldn't be as much as £40 though. But you could get matching necklace and/or bracelet.
