Need help with a posh all day wedding

Radley · 11/03/2006 18:42

I am going to a really posh do at the end of April, after alot of fretting I have finally managed to get babysitters.

My problem is this:

I am a huge. Size 30 trousers and 26/28 top.

The wedding goes straight from the church to the afternoon and evening do, I have never been to one of these before so I have no idea what to wear/not to wear.

It will be cold, but I don't want something too warm as I get too hot very easily. Has anyone got any ideas what I can do/wear.

Was there a dress code on the invites ?

Radley · 11/03/2006 18:45

No there is no dress code, I also can't wear hats/

Do you mean you dont like hats? They dont suit you?

What's your budget?

Do you prefer trousers or skirs/dresses?

LadySherlockofLGJ · 11/03/2006 18:49

I would wear some thing fairly light, but make sure you wear heavy coat for church and all the standing around outside.

If the budget wont run to a new coat make sure you buy a good quality bright coloured scarf, to lift it.

You really need Cod for this.

What would you wear if you were going out at night and jeans were a no no ?

Radley · 11/03/2006 18:52

I don't think hats suit me.

I would think that trousers or a very very long skirt would be better as i have bad psoriasis on my legs.

If jeans were a no no i would wear a very long denim skirt with 3" inch heel snakeskin ankle boots, or a long black skirt with knee length black kitten heel boots.

What about a long tunic top and wide log trousers with a nice scarf?

cece · 11/03/2006 18:58

how about wide legged linen trousers with linen? tunic top. Either a wrap or jacket/coat for earier. Or maybe a pretty cardi. You need something tha will look smart and keep you warm earlier but that will easily adapt for the party afterwards...

Sorry! Only available in the US or Canada. Do you know anyone over there to whom you could have the clothing delivered & then they could send it on to you?

ja9 · 12/03/2006 11:44

Or how about Talbots Woman? They do dressy clothing for larger sizes. And they deliver in the UK. Even have shops in the high street. Have a look at \link{http://www1.talbots.com/talbotsonline/woman_default.asp?BID=S20060710647418DB9499B346E4B38B2E2B8&h=W\this}

Radley - how tall are you?

I have a "weddingy" outfit (wore it for my brother's wedding in 2004) I would be happy to lend you - I can send it to you and you could try it on. No probs if its not suitable, you can just send it back.

The outfit is way too big for me now, as I've lost 7 stone. I was about a size 24/26 when I wore it, but I think it might be ok for someone bigger.

I don't have a pic I'm afraid, but it's a jacket and skirt in a sort of dusky pink colour. The skirt is long (I'm 5ft 7 and it came to just above my ankles), but if you are shorter, it has an elasticated waist, so you could move it up IYSWIM. You would just need to find a camisole/vest style top to go underneath.

I know what it's like trying to find something smart yet comfortable for a special event when you are a larger size, hence the offer Smile.

CAT me if you are interested.
