What to wear with a purple skirt...

I recently bought a purple 'sassy skirt' from kettlewell colours. I really like it but have no idea what to wear with it.
I've seen some tan mid heel mary jane type shoes (I think that's right!) in dp. Would they be ok? But what about when it gets colder?
What about on top?
Sorry for stupid questions. I have a new found interest in clothes and want to break away from jean/fleece/trainers look but not sure about anything!

I would wear sandals or ballet pumps in summer and casual chunky boots in winter. Unless you are over 60 I think that skirt would look a bit frumpy with mary janes. Black or brown boots would be fine with the purple imo this sort of thing. And i'd probably go for a patterned/textured top half to balance the block colour of the skirt (stripes/print/cable knit etc) maybe one of these for summer? butterfly, striped, print

That's what i was afraid of. Especially as I'm mid 30s! I bought some shoes a year or two ago which went straight back when my husband said his nan would wear similar. I'm clueless, I tell you...

Thanks for the ideas, I'll have a look...
Any more suggestions?!

I have a purple skirt and I wear it with black or navy tops and black ballet pumps/high heels. In winter I wear it with black tights and jumpers. I once wore it with uggs to go round a museum but that was more for comfort than style!

Orange, teal or cerise top to make a statement.
