I am after a red lipstick. Trying to find one that suits is like the holy grail!! I am quite pale with blonde hair. I like the fifties type look and have bought a few dresses and petticoats. But I feel I need the right make up to pull the look together iyswim?

So what is a good red for me?.....

Do you have a warm or cool undertone to your skin? Warm = orange red, so something like Lady bug by Mac/certainly red or Fire and Ice by Revlon. Cool= blue red, so something like ruby woo by Mac or Really red matt lipstick by Revlon should be pin up bright red.

In Sally Hughes's Guardian column a few months ago she said that the red (number 1) from Kate Moss's new range of lipsticks for Rimmel is a perfect true red that should suit everyone. Maybe worth a try as not v expensive if it doesn't suit.

I like Ruby Woo, as I'm cool toned and pale with dark hair, but it's so matt and hard to apply. Dubonnet by Mac is another good red, a bit darker and vampier than the others recommended so far, and a very nice texture.

Also Bobbi Brown recently came out with some new reds with the aim of creating ones to suit different skin tones/hair colours.

It may sound naff but I have lots of reds from Avon and they have a no quibble returns policy if you don't like the shade, today I'm wearing one of their ultra colour rich reds and it's lovely.

Easy - as per Sali Hughes, the make up goddess fro the Guardian.

Kate Moss for Rimmel - shade 1.

Yes to Kate Moss Rimmel one. Lovely tomato red.

I have this lipstick in Red Passion - looks pink on the swatch online but it's the colour the model is wearing at the top of the page. Perfect pin up red and totally immovable.

I am a fan of Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in Romantic. £5.99 at Boots just now.

SilkandSteel · 16/08/2012 21:07

I second Revlon Just Bitten Romantic. I am also blonde and pale skinned, and is red enough to stand out without being overpowering

I am pale with dark blond hair and warm undertones. MAC's Lady Bug is perfect for me

I have just bought Bobbi Brown's Burnt Red and I am wearing it CONSTANTLY and quite a lot of people have said how nice I look. Which, when you work on women's mag like wot I do, means you really do look quite nice.

If you have blue-ish undertones in your skin try MAC Brave Red, and you'll always look dressed ;)

The Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet ones are the best I have found and I tried alot!!

You can also try before you buy which is better!! Def worth the money.
