where to go in Birmingham?

My budget is definitely more high street than designer! But I have some money to spend. Any reccommendations for birmingham centre? I last went about 7 years ago, I think I remember a massive H&M, and I went to Selfridges. Anywhere else I should go? Are there any areas with independant shops?

Do you like vintage? If so, head down to the custard factory in Digbeth.

PrincessOfChina · 15/08/2012 18:24

Definitely Selfridges. House of Fraser has some decent stuff too.

Digbeth and Custard Factory for vintage type stuff. There are a couple of new shops opened up in the Great Western Arcade but I'm not sure if one of them isn't menswear only. Maybe the Mailbox for a poke round Harvey Nicks.

If you do go to the Great Western Arcade go in a shop called Loki. No clothes but it sells awesome wine to taste by the 25ml sample Grin

thanks, looking forward to selfridges again. Will be travelling there by train, are all those places central enough to get to?

I think I like everything blackduck! I live in a very small town so it will all look very glamoutous and exciting to me Blush

Ooh Loki sounds great Princessofchina*

Yes, Custard Factory is a short walk from self ridges - go there first and then head back into town....
I recommend a place called Gingermegs...

Princess - must try Loki myself!

It's awesome. The guy who runs it knows loads about the wine. We keep nipping in on a Saturday afternoon with the baby to sample a few glasses!

There's a small vintage shop, Cow, on Corporation Street next door to Urban Outfitters. It isn't v good imho though, although my teenage dds like it.

Selfridges is great - if you're up for cocktails there is a nice little bar upstairs. There's a Jigsaw just off New Street, if that's your sort of thing and a biggish Ted Baker on New Street. Hobbs near M&S - really lovely staff in there.

There are v few independent places in Brum, sadly - unless you want band t-shirts from Oasis market!

Nice coffee place = Cafe Blend on the way to The Mailbox (small Harvey Nics there). They do good lattes and great mango lassi.

Cafe Blend is good remus, I like. Have you tried Urban Coffee Co? Near Hotel du Vin or in Jewellery Quarter. The cakes are awesome.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/08/2012 22:54

I was less fond of Urban Coffee co, though a friend loves it. The coffee was a bit bitter for my liking. Nice yoghurt and muesli mix though!

Ah, you see, I don't drink coffee so tea tastes pretty much the same wherever!
