Can I keep used hair dye for an hour?

I know that you can't store used hair dye but would it be ok to keep just for an hour, once I've mixed it all up? I want to do a strand test but then need to wait until it's developed before doing the rest of my hair. Would the mixture still be ok then? I will have snipped the top off the bottle so it's not going to explode...

cant you just mix up the tiny bit you need for the strand test and make up the full amount when you are doing all of your hair

I wouldn't think it would work after an hour...

I can't really, because the colourant and the develope are different sized bottles so I wouldn't be able to mix it in the right quantities. Annoying, as I'd just do a teaspoon of each of they were the same size!

how does it say to do the strand test on the instructions?

TwiggysWittyOlympicNameChange · 14/08/2012 08:55

It doesn't - there's no mention at all of a strand test!

I mean I don't think the hair dye will colour your hair an hour after mixing (though I could be wrong)

vodkaanddietirnbru · 14/08/2012 08:59

dont know then. I've never done a strand test - I just bung it on and hope for the best!

Perhaps I'll just go for it then. The sensible thing would be to buy another pack but I'm too tight and CBA to go out and get another one :) I'm just scared of it looking horrible as it's a permanent one... oh well, thanks for your advice, ladies!

Just look at the ratio and mix accordingly.
