I need a dress for a party on friday and like an idiot I haven't ordered yet. clever hey?

If you help me I promise to post a photo when it comes...

Am 34, 5'3", brown hair (long, layered, fringe), oliveish skin, very broad shoulders, norky, not a great waist, big belly - about a 14 / 16 UK size I think. Not sure about the height of the neckline on the strapped versions, will I still have cleavage or is there danger of matronly monoboob?

The limiting factor is shoes - I only have red mary janes, nowt else. No chance of getting any others dues to crazy wide (and flat) feet. So, which would suit and work with the shoes? Bag and coverup wise I have 1001 options in the wardrobe.

Charlie
vanity
Gery - red
gery - purple
Dolores
dixi

I love them all but I think I might be tending towards the charlie. The dolores and dixi really make me smile, I love quirky but I don't want to look like a caricature.

Oh, and any tips on sizing - seem to be between the L & XL and it's unclear if they publish the dress or body measurements in their size charts.

Definitely the Charlie. It's by far the prettiest and the most authentic looking.
Plus, your shoes will go fab with it.

Some of the others look a wee bit teenage. And they are very high necked - not great for big boobs. I've owned a few HellBunny dresses and they can be a bit teen goth with all the black and extra bows etc.

They're small fitting so go for the bigger size.

Do you have a petticoat? Essential for these dresses!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 08:14

Thanks bunny! Yup, I have a few petticoats. Was thinking black with the charlie. OK you think?

It depends what kind of party it is, if you'd like to wear it again, if you are happy to be obviously 1950's if you see what I mean.
I think vanity and feet in purple are the best. Although like you said dixi is very cute! Does that help at all as I feel I've just faffed!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 08:20

Yup, I want to be 50's! Is a birthday party, not at all formal, all people +/- my sort of age. I'll be a bit overdressed but don't mind that at all. Will wear it to death again whichever I choose but I suppose dressy-uppy-downy-ness is something I'd like.

Dixi and dolores now discounted as silliness. Would love to see them on someone else but not really me.

A Hellbunny XL is a size 16 - not an especially generous one I find.
This blogger has a size chart if that helps?

I like all of the dresses Grin

Can anyone direct me to a decent guide on how to do a fifties hairstyle? At the minute I do 'loose' or 'ponytail' and I'd like to diversify (sorry for threadjack)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 08:30

There are loads on youtube boulevard, but IIRC (and I might not) Bunny is the queen of the victory roll...

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 08:31

Oh, meant to say: flesh coloured micronets and red shoes - yay or nee?

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 08:44

OK Charlie it is then, I think.

Oh, size. Gah.

Am exactly between L & XL on the waist - measured last night and this morning, belly grows during the day but the waist measurement stays the same . Nork-wise am a 1/2 inch short on the XL and 2" over on the L.

I'd like it to be tight but not bodice rippingly so. Don't want to feel trussed up but baggy would be a sin. It says it has a wee bit of stretch and I'm thinking the halterneck will give some flexibility at the bust. So, L or XL? Will have not time to adjust the fit...

I have the Charlie and find it the most generous of all of my hell bunny dresses :)

StellaAndFries · 14/08/2012 12:57

Boulevard check out Betty Bee's tutorials on you tube for easy victory rolls and 50's hair and make up tips :)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 12:58

Sooo, after much pratting about to find things in stock I've finally ordered. I thought the shop I linked to before had both but they order from the UK once an order has been placed with them.

So anyway, found a charlie in the right size for but had to get more expensive version of the hell bunny petticoat (allegedly softer and made of more fabric Hmm), that and double postage has taken me over budget. Oops. Didn't seem to be any other black 25 inchers in this country anywhere at all!

Has anyone got both sorts of petticoat by any chance?

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 12:59

Oh, x posts.

Bugger. Ordered the XL. Do you think it'll be all baggy?

Oh and could someone advise me on stockings? Here are my shoes, I know they're a bit old lady but believe me they're the sexist shoes I've ever owned Grin

I thought I'd found flesh tone micronets but was (yet again) mislead by the site. Looking anew I'm torn between flesh tone fishnets, black seemed fishnets and black seemed sheer. Pins are good but too dry to fake tan ATM, paleish and bruised.

Am usually so confident in choosing stuff but the self imposed time shortage has me all of a dither...

OP posts:
StellaAndFries · 14/08/2012 13:35

I personally don't like fishnets but I do have lovely nude stockings from primark which have the black back seam, they always look good with dresses.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 13:39

like this? Perfect! Thanks!

OP posts:
StellaAndFries · 14/08/2012 13:46

Yes exactly like them :)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 14:52

thank you!

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 14/08/2012 16:02

Thanks for hair pointers!

I would've gone for the XL too, procrastination, you can always safety pin a small tuck of fabric out of the way if necessary, but if you'd got the L delivered Friday morning and couldn't get the zip done up, you'd be buggered!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 18:46

Right well the fuckers who I ordered my dress from mailed to say they didn't have it in stock after all, despite assuring me they definitely did when I phoned Angry. Was in the middle of making dinner too. So, I've ordered it elsewhere but it's more expensive for exactly the same thing and obviously they wont send today. 30% over budget now.

If only I hadn't spent so damn long hoping to get back into my old stuff I'd be fine think I'm going to flog the lot and start again.

TBH I'm thinking this isn't meant to be - finding I am too big even for my old petticoats should have been a clue, but there you go. It doesn't really even matter that much but I'd convinced myself I'd be stunning on friday night Hmm

OP posts:
StellaAndFries · 14/08/2012 20:00

Oh no, I hope it arrives in time. I'm sure you will look lovely and this is all a blip.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 14/08/2012 20:30

Cheers Stella! Was a bad 1/2 hour Blush

In any case I'll have the beautiful stockings you recommended - they're sure to fit and suit and they'd be fab with the old LBD.
