sitting here in tears about my hair colour

I went to the hairdresser yesterday for a cut and colour.

I have been trying to get back to my natural colour (mid brown) from previously having lots of highlights. Finally the last time I went about 8 weeks ago I felt I had achieved this, she had put some fine highlights through but then done an allover colour on the rest of my hair close to my natural colour. I was really pleased and felt I finally had a colour that really suited me.

It had started to fade a bit and had some roots but not awful but also have this patch of grey at the front that was starting to show, so booked in for the same colour treatment as the last time.

I told her I was pleased with how the colour had turned out and wanted to refresh this.

Anyway she basically has done high-lights all over again so I am back to what I was trying to get away from, I can tell already that these are going to produce very noticeable roots (if I have my hair all pulled back in a pony tail you can see a darker edge at the front) and I have one back to the sort of blonde with that gingery tinge (no disrespect to those naturally this colour) that I had been trying to get away from.

I am really upset, DH says I am being ridiculous but it is just the straw that has broken the camels back, I have been on medication that I am finally coming off gradually but as a result am a stone over-weight (side effect) have got terrible spots at the moment and kind of hoped at least my hair would make me feel good about myself.

I guess I should go in and say I am not happy but feel bad as she did it so well the previous time...maybe I didn't communicate well enough what it was I wanted but am gutted I spent a fortune and am now back to square one.

Ring them, ask to speak to the manager and tell them how you feel. I'm sure it looks lovely but if you're not happy fix it.

No idea what rights you have re Consumer Act but it must be covered, surely. Hope it all goes well.

ginmakesitallok · 12/08/2012 08:08

Just phone the hairdresser and explain that you're not happy with your colour - they will be able to fix it. They will want to keep your custom

Loveleopardprint · 12/08/2012 08:32

Just here to empathize. I know my DH tries to solve problems rather than agree that something is upsetting and he gets annoyed when he can't solve it. So unless you are married to Nicky Clarke that is unlikely!

I understand if you are feeling a bit down that you might not have the strength to complain or go back.

Have you got a lovely friend who can recommend a good hairdresser and maybe you could start again?

yellowraincoat · 12/08/2012 08:35

Oh dear, I hate it when hairdressers don't listen. Like others have said, either go back and complain or find another hairdresser to sort it for you.

norahjonesisnotmyname · 12/08/2012 08:35

Definitely give them a call and explain, it's a misunderstanding and they'll want to put it right :)

Thanks everyone am plucking up the courage to give them a ring.

Oldbag yes Prednisilone am down to just 10mg a day now (started out on 40mg) I have never had spots when I have been on these before but can't think of any other reason, they are awful all round my mouth, hairline and neck and back. You are right it isn't forever, will try that witch hazel stick sounds good :-), you have my sympathies too, whilst they are amazing drugs and have totally sorted me out they are not without unpleasant side effects.

Well I rang them, am booked in at 6:45 tomorrow for a consultation to discuss what they can do. To be honest the person on the phone wasn't exactly falling over herself to help me, she wanted to rebook me with the girl who did it but she was only working at times I am at work myself this week and she wasn't very forthcoming about booking me with someone else but anyway I can go tomorrow and it won't be embarrassing as the girl who did it won't be there.

DH also just made me go for a run with him to kick start some weight loss and I managed to run almost 2 miles, feeling a bit better about things. Thanks for listening to me moan.

Hope you got on ok. Glad you managed to phone them back and see what they can do. My dd has frequent courses of steroids and gets terrible spots on her neck, back, chest and face from them. Also very greasy skin too and a 'moon face'. She is extra sensitive about her hair when she's like this as she feels she needs the boost of her hair at least looking ok. I hope they put the colour back to how you asked for it OP.

whoneedssleepanyway · 14/08/2012 11:47

Thanks again.

It went well, the girl I saw agreed that the colour was definitely what I had asked for and would be high maintenance. She was really nice and spent quite a while talking through what they could do with me, I am working and then away this weekend but she has booked me in next week with her to have it corrected for no charge.

Definitely made me realise that if they do something I am not happy with another time I would go back in and wouldn't just put up with something I didn't like.

Popped yes I have the moon face at the moment too.

Feel much better that it will be sorted next week, thanks all for listening.
