Need some ideas of outfits to buy for DS. He is 2.4yrs with strawberry blonde hair. We have 3 weddings and DD christening over the next few months. Preferably nothing too expensive as money is tight but will need shoes etc to go with it as he lives in trainers or wellingtons.

how dressy do you want him to be? we found with ds1 that a pair of chino type pants and a little tank top combo of the kind sold in next look cute-(but with a shirt not a t-shirt)
Or monsoon do lovely boys things if you want spend a bit more-lots of velvets and linens.
They're so young that they look good in anything!

alexsmum · 08/03/2006 18:11

i can't do links but if you go on the next website they have a little cream linen suit with a white shirt ,all floppy and summery, for £23.99.quite cute.

nemo1977 · 08/03/2006 18:17

Will have a look at next.
I want him smartish but not looking like a adult if that makes sense.

i know exactly what you mean nemo.
for one chritening we went to,ds wore a plain white cotton polo neck jumper from gap and a pair of navy cord dungarees.he looked lovely-smart but little boyish too.

sammac · 08/03/2006 18:37

Ds wore long linen shorts and a collarless white shirt from Monsoon to a wedding when he was 18 months. You'd be more than welcome to the outfit but think would be too small.

Detta · 08/03/2006 21:29

DS 2.8 last summer wore long olive green linen shorts, white grandad shirt and olive green linen waistcoat (one size too big) to my friend's wedding and completely stole the show! He looked soo cute it wasn't true. Quite tempted to post a pic, if only I knew how...

WestCountryLass · 08/03/2006 23:18

I got my DS a linen shirt and linen trousers from Junior J at Debs the other day, very nice smart outfit without being all trussed up. My DS is a fellow welly wearer and he will be wearing sandals (I hope).

Nemo1977 · 08/03/2006 23:40

they all sound lovely. Will be looking for something linen I think.

I'd go for Monsoon, then - lovely stuff.

Elf1981 · 09/03/2006 07:21

Search on Ebay for Monsoon stuff. It's a fraction of the price. I'm not sure how expensive boys stuff is from Monsoon but I've been looking for a dress for my DD to wear to my sisters wedding, and Monsoon is lovely but expensive. I found stuff on Ebay for a fraction of the price, most of it brand new with tags :)

heavenis · 09/03/2006 08:23

Don't know if you have a BHS near you but they do some lovely outfits for weddings etc.

stitch · 09/03/2006 08:25

a shirt if yo must, but personally i think asmart t shirt is preferable. smart jeans. and for a two year old i wouldnt buy a special pair of shoes. just give his normal ones a polish.

mumatuks · 09/03/2006 08:26

Hi Nemo,

Its definately more wedding / christening stuff I've seen but Adams have got their own range. I agree with all the people who suggested Next if you're looking for linen though. Another one to try maybe H&M Kids?

HTH!

Bozza · 09/03/2006 08:32

I wouldn't do jeans - I think you need something smarter than that personally. When DS has been to summer events he has tended to wear shorts and sandals, and quite often a short sleeve shirt. Last summer two of his cousins were christened and he wore beige linen shorts, a blue and beige stripey cotton shirt and blue sandals. Presumably sandals will be useful during the summer anyway.

Have you had a look at Vertbaudet? And go on hotukdeals to get a discount code.

WestCountryLass · 09/03/2006 08:46

The Next linen is naff, sorry!

alexsmum · 09/03/2006 14:16

why west countrylass?

WestCountryLass · 09/03/2006 21:03

It just looks really cheap looking. They have a chocolate brown linen suit and I was tempted from the website to get it for my DS but when I saw it IRL I would not buy it. It did not look as if it had been made very well at all. Also the white and beige linen trousers they have are see through. I know it is meant to be a light summery fabric but it just looked "cheap" iykwim?

Nemo1977 · 09/03/2006 21:19

Have bought a little trouser and waistcoat set from ebay for £3.99..lol Brand new with tags so will see what it is like and if I dont like it will just put it back on. Looking for some nice shoes to go with it maybe sandles.

Well for £3.99 you can't go wrong in my book!

meggmoo · 10/03/2006 14:49

Nemo are you still looking for something for your ds?

Nemo1977 · 12/03/2006 13:53

meggmoo I may be am waiting for this outfit to arrive and see what it looks like. Do you have some other suggestions???

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 12/03/2006 14:19

Vertbaudet have some nice things for little boys. I agree with the smart trousers / tank top combination, a white shirt or even a fresh white t-shirt underneath looks beautiful.

meggmoo · 12/03/2006 22:49

Well we went to a wedding last week and I have a lovely velvet blazer/velvet waistcoat and dress shirt (all Monsoon) if you wanted to borrow them. Seems a shame to buy something just for the day.

It may be too warm perhaps - see what you think of the ones you have ordered if you don't like them CAT me - you could borrow them if you like and get them cleaned and send them back
