Best place for cheap, good quality cashmere?

I bought a gorgeous red John Lewis cashmere cardi in a charity shop yonks ago, and it's been fab but it's finally got a hole in one sleeve.

it hasn't bobbled at all and copes with being machine washed on a gently cycle.

Where should I be looking for reasonably priced, non bobbly cashmere to replace it?

I've just this week received two lovely jumpers from La Redoute (either direct or via Amazon), and I love them! They are every bit a decent (in quality and fit) and cashmere purchased previously from higher end brands, and so so soft!

The colour choices are great, but do beware of the camel/caramel, which in real life is a very dark brown. And unless you want a really baggy fit, don't size up either.

Here is a link to my favourite style:

www.laredoute.co.uk/round-neck-100-cashmere-sweater.htm?ProductId=324350410&CMPID=COM0057LARGOOGBLNK&utm_source=Google%2Bshooping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=GSF

The info isn't on the page, but they are hand wash only, but come with a cute little leaflet full of instructions for care.

every bit AS decent

Also, I received a 50% off voucher with my first jumper, so purchased the second half price.

noddyholder · 04/08/2012 12:29

I like the grey one How are they size wise?

ToastedTeacakes · 04/08/2012 12:34

I am a UK8 so choose the 10/12 initially because I wanted to wear it slouchy - a bad Idea unless you have decently sized boobage, which I haven't. If over a B cup, sizing up would be just fine.
I would say the 10/12 fits me like an actual 12 or 14 (my chest is 32inch).

If wearing with skinnies, and you want a slouchy fit, sizing up would suit curvier shapes (I'm not hourglassy, sadly).

noddyholder · 04/08/2012 12:36

I am slim but busty unfortunately so will go with exact size and fingers crossed!

I have had some nice things from Woolovers in the past and they do cashmere (www.woolovers.co.uk)

AmberNectarine · 04/08/2012 13:08

I like Uniqlo and John Lewis for cashmere, both around the £80 price point, which I don't think is too bad...

Muststudy · 04/08/2012 13:30

Second to Uniqlo! I always go for a caramel type colour :)

hermioneweasley · 04/08/2012 21:39

Aargh - have just spent nearly £200 at la redoute. Damn you all.

ToastedTeacakes · 04/08/2012 22:01

Also saw the M&S cashmere today in the Manchester store - absolutely lovely, and I truly mean that. They offer v neck versions and nice cashmere cardi's too.
Claim to be machine washable, but I would probably not risk it, I dunno.

Small fitting so I would absolutely size up in these.

Same price as the La Redoute ones. Def worth a look!

ToastedTeacakes · 04/08/2012 22:02

Sadly my uniqlo merino has shrunk twice after washing via instructions so I'm a bit scared of shopping there for knits again.

ToastedTeacakes · 04/08/2012 22:03

Me again!
If any of you locate a true, pale camel colour cashmere please tell me, I am desperate to find this colour.

LonelyGoatherd · 08/12/2013 19:46

I discovered La Redoute thanks to this thread - and right now they have £50 off if you spend £100 (meaning two cashmere jumpers for £75ish). There's also 7% off with quidco.
Cheers Wine

AmberNectarine · 08/12/2013 20:42

Thanks lonely - I have also ordered :)

VenusDeWillendorf · 09/12/2013 01:09

MnS have lovely cashmere.
Wait for the sale when it's about 30£ for a jumper.

I bung it into the machine and it comes out perfect on a cold wash. I dry it flat on my hanger thingy and reshape while damp.
Perfect.

VenusDeWillendorf · 09/12/2013 01:11

Have a look here, in the MnS website

SilverSixpence · 09/12/2013 09:34

I had a La Redoute cashmere cardigan and it looked terrible after a few wears. I have A Gap jumper on the other hand which looks brand new after many many wears

KristinaM · 09/12/2013 09:41

I have 2 Uniqlo cahmere jumpers and have had no problems washing them. They are about 4 years old

Floisme · 09/12/2013 09:47

I like Uniqlo but I think their quality is very random. I have two of their cashmere jumpers, both bought a couple of years ago for £49. One still looks immaculate but the other is a sea of bobbles and fluff. I also have one from John Lewis which was around £80 and has worn well.
