My hair is breaking off :(

What can I do??

I have an asymmetric bob, the longer side is fucked - the ends of my hair are just snapping off, the ends are dry and crispy and longer bits are falling out too. Mostly though, its just little bits, maybe a centimetre long.

I've been using various intensive rapairing treatments a couple of times a week but they aren't helping.

I don't have the face or figure for short hair - I'd look like a skittle - otherwise I'd have it all cropped and start again.

Have been using morrocan argan oil shampoo and conditioner - one from boots, organix I think - but its just not making any difference :(

Im a hairdresser it sounds like split ends as for the treatment you can repair it 1 stand of hair becomes 2 thats why it fizzle/drys out.

I would get it cut it will become alot worse and go futher up the single strand causing more damage.

I think you are over doing your hair with hair products that say they help spilt ends etc its just bullshit.

What do you use in terms of heat? Hairdryer etc.

Sounds like you need an intensive protein treatment/mask. But make sure you do a deep condition straight afterwards to put some moisture back in. Has this just happened suddenly?

I use a hairdryer and occasionally straightners.

I had my hair hi lighted over a year ago and the highlighted bits of hair were kind of jelly like when it was wet.

I'm now dying it dark brown. I can't not dye it because of all the grey roots :(

Its got really bad the last couple of months. Its mostly the top layer of the longer side - it feels like hay.

Do you use heat spray??

I dont think that would effect your hair now the highlights.

If you look on your hair and see and strange with 2 pieced your hair has got split end its when the bottom on of the root breaks and starts to break.

I would get it cut, maybe 1inch depending on the condition.

I would dye it then get it cut it will make it worse but roots are the pain in the bum!!

I had pink hair yes pink a few months ago it was the first time ive ever dyed it in my life Im 19 and i had it bleach bathed highlighted and low lights and my hair isnt in the best and Im a hairdresser!!!

Thanks xmas :)

I do use heat spray yes.

I'm going to see what the hairdresser says and possibly have quite a bit taken off.

What do you think are the best brushes and products to use?

dying it brown shouldn't hurt it, it's the bleach that kills it.

Hopefully she'll be able to take your layers up shorter without losing the overall length.

No problem :)

Some women dont and wonder why they have dry hair Hmm

She will give it a loving cut i expect!!

Products for brush- I use tangle tamer its from boots or superdrug i have thick long hair and de-tangles my hair wonders!!
Roughly £8.

Shampoo and conditioner- Sometimes i use tigi or aussie. Tigi is lovely makes your hair wonderful but since being pregnant my hair has changed..

I now use aussie i love the smell!!

I dont really use hairspray or heat on a daily basis because i rarely go out maybe once twice a week.

Do NOT use head and shoulders it causes more dandruff after you use it and can clean an oven.
Pantene or VO5 puts a plastic like coating around your hair. Not good.

No more bhd from now on :)

Try using pure coconut oil. Massage it into scalp and hair, leave for at least 2 hours or idea.ly overnight. Wash out and lay off any heat styling if you possibly can. Do this once every 3-4 days and I guarantee you will not softer healthier hair in a few weeks... I use it weekly and use BB big hair every day and my Hair is healthy and shiny

If your hair is breaking off, a protein treatment will help stop more breakage, especially if it is due to old colour/bleach. Oil treatments won't do anything except superficial. A trim or cut is the only way to really rectify it.

I wouldn't worry too much. My hair is very long and due to the fact I rarely get it cut and colour it far too much (think blonde, bright red, bleached, dark, blonde, bright red, bleached, dark.... ) it usually has quite a lot of split ends/breakage. It looks fine once styled with products though and after having a bit lopped off most of the breakage is gone.

Aussie is about the best 'supermarket' product you can buy. Aveda is the best salon product IMO (Used to work in Aveda salon) and if you go into an Aveda salon, they will tell you which product is right for your hair. You don't need to be getting your hair done there.

Using any permenant colour on it will damage it, but going darker doesn't damage it as much as going lighter.
