Middle aged frump looking for a stylish yet cheap dress

Going to meet an ex for dinner in a couple of weeks. He is only an ex because he had to relocate his job and therefore eventually moved and distance with work commitments is a major problem. We're both divorced and there's still an attraction.

So.... I want a dress to look stylish and sophisticated. I'm a curvy size 16 and around 5ft 3. I've lived in jeans for a while and need to feel womanly and confident. Any ideas? Oh, pretty cheap high street budget.

TK Maxx, Wallis ( still some in sale). Just got a fab dress from Phase Eight

www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/phase-eight/Dresses/Patch-Print-Floral-Dress/201797111 - now selling for £29.00. it's quite slinky, but draped to cover podgy middle bits, very flattering, unfrumpy length ( knee-length on me, 5"4). Looks nice with flats or heels.
