Converse shoes - how's the fit?

I always thought my feet were average size (5.5/6), but over the past two years it seems shoe makers are making things narrower.

Wanted to get some trainers for every day wear. Tried superga as converse (although I love them) have become quite ubiquitous.

The supergas however are just slightly too narrow for comfort. I can get them on, but after walking a bit the middle of the front my foot begins to ache.

So, will converse be an issue as well? Or are they slightly roomy?

If narrow, any other suggestions?

I have the more feminine looking converse, and they are super thin. hurt my feet after a while

Poodlepower · 01/08/2012 16:29

I have always worn trainers and have quite fat feet nowadays! I am a size 5 and find the normal lo converse are perfect.

I used to find Converse too narrow - the only shoe I had this problem with. this was 20 years ago though

cocolepew · 01/08/2012 16:44

Ive always found them fine, never too narrow and I think I have wideish feet. I am a 5 and can wear a converse 5 with insoles.

SirEdmundFrillary · 01/08/2012 16:51

I'd be careful about converse, they are very narrow and rub, even more when wet. I do wear and love mine though. Leaving aside issues of frumpiness.

Poodlepower · 01/08/2012 17:15

Oh are they frumpy? Bugger.

cocolepew · 01/08/2012 17:21

They aren't frumpy. I wear them and I'm very cool Grin

@ coco.

I believe Nike took over the converse label a few years ago, so perhaps this may have changed the fit.

May have to venture into an actual shop. Damn, I do prefer the online experience. Having horrible flashes of needing to buy a men's pair to fit my clown feet.

Thanks for the input.

I have two pairs of converse, high tops and the normal ones, My low ones took a couple wears to get comfy, and i would have classed them as narrow when i first got them, but they are fine now. My high tops i am currently wearing in (for my wedding) but they are pretty comfy already Grin

WonaLotteofMedals · 01/08/2012 18:20

I'm a 5 and have wide-ish feet but am fine with normal converse.

RobotHamster · 01/08/2012 18:23

The canvas converse are narrow, but the suede ones are a bit wider so I've switched to them.

RunsWithScissors · 01/08/2012 18:36

Oooh, will have a look at the suede ones too then.

Thanks everyone!

Hmmm I've just ordered some new converse from Schuh, am usually a 4 in shoes and a 5 in trainers, wellies etc. Almost all the reviews said to go down a size as the fit is roomy, so I've gone for a 4. Hope they fit now, my old ( 5yr + ) ones were a 5 and fit fine but I was swayed by the reviews and also thought maybe the fit had changed.

I found supergas very wide and so if you found them narrow I don't think you will get along with converse as I found them just right. Mind you I didn't think I had narrow feet.
