I don't dye and only straighten my fringe and yet i still moult loads of hair - the hair has an active, dormant and shedding phase - sometimes there's more than normal that has the same shedding phase.

Urgh, yes. I have long, thick hair and have always moulted loads. It's horrendous at the moment as I barely lost any while I was pregnant. Then a month ago at about 4 months post partum it started coming out like nothing else. Clearly making up for lost time... Grim...

Yes. A few things that have really helped - getting a big old wide tooth plastic comb (you know, the 99p type in superdrug) and combing through my hair with that after putting shedloads of conditioner on (and leaving it on for a good 5 minutes), rinse hair in as cold a water as I can stand and after squeezing out the excess water putting it into one of those towelling turban things (£1 primark), then gently combing through with the big comb again once again. Oh an getting a tangle-teezer to use instead of a hairbrush. Bit of a faff everyday but it really seems to reduce the hair drop and breakage.
