Please help me choose Mulberry Bag.

My DM has very kindly offered to buy me a Mulberry bag for my birthday, but I could do with some help with choosing one.

I am 38 years old and a SAHM - my day-to-day wardrobe consists of a lot of skinny jeans, blazers, pumps/ballet flats etc.

I want something casual that I will use every day and I don't need a huge one. I LOVE the Alexa but the medium one is too expensive and the mini I think is too small. I think I could go up to about £650.

These are the ones I have picked out - but could do with some opinions.

I would love to have something classic that I can hand down to my DDs, but am worried these are a bit 'mumsy'- are they?

It only brings up the homepage OP.

OP do you live anywhere near a Mulberry outlet like York, Bicester Village, Cheshire Oaks or even Shepton Mallet?

I would advise going to the outlets where you will see a wide selection of bags that are at a lower price that originally sold.

If your heart is set on an Alexa then I would either do as Itsgotta suggests and go to the outlets, or see if you DM would kindly give you the funds for a bag and you can add to them when you can afford to, in order to get one.

I have nothing to add other than humpf. I want a mulberry bag too!

I have an oak daria and I love it. BUT I got 40% off it with a my wardrobe discount last Christmas. Also have fushia effie....again half price in the sales. I love mulberry bags and have a few others but rarely pay full price as the outlets do tend to have a good selection and the sales are also good. York outlet had deep forest green darias a few weeks ago, watermelon versions of a few bags and loads of others. So all in I wouldn't rush to pay full price at the moment. Even selfridges sometimes sends email vouchers for 20% sometimes so it could be worth bearing that in mind. It would annoy me to buy something that is such a big buy and then realise if I had waited a little I could have nabbed a bargain.

20% discount I mean!

I went out with DH to look for a handbag for my birthday recently. We were umming and ahhing about various bags, and for a while I thought the Bayswater would be the one I would go with, for various reasons, until I found a lovely Radley bag for about 1/4 the price. And it was lined, which Mulberry bags are not!

If you love the Alexa you should save up and buy an alexa. I have an oak regular alexa and mini black one and love them. However, I do also really like the effie bags. The price is better and they make a great everyday bag.

Hand I have quite a few (5) Mulberry bags and some of them are lined. OP I will put the link to a site called The Purse Forum on here in a moment (on my phone) they have a shopping section where people have put some of the prices for things at the outlets. Plus so long as its not a substandard bag they will send them to you!

Itsgottabebags · 28/07/2012 10:32

here OP
Scroll back to find the bag you want and give them a ring!
Plus OP should you want to visit an outlet they used to do an extra ten percent off on bank holls so might be worth asking them.

Also their is no Mulberry Outlet website so you have to ring/visit

CousinBotony · 28/07/2012 15:14

Thanks so much for all your messages.

I am in West London so I guess Bicester would be my nearest outlet. I will give them a ring when I make up my mind. I would be gutted if I spend all that money and find I could have got it for less.

If money was no object I would love a gold or animal print one, but I am thinking many years down the line they might look a bit outdated (?) and I love of thought of my DDs using it so will probably stick to Oak.

Itsgottabebags - that forum is addictive. I have just spent a good half hour looking at the celebrities with Mulberry bags thread Blush

Cousin yes I love it too! I would ring Bicester up and find out what stock they have although you might find it hard to get a oak bag with a decent discount.

PropertyNightmare · 28/07/2012 18:03

Agree with all the others; wait and get an alexa if that is what you really want.

Drywhiteplease · 28/07/2012 23:01

I took ages choosing one.wanted the oak colour and an everyday. Not too big. Not too much metal. Big enough for an iPad and not to worky. Really love it
