I'm looking for something I can combine with jogging to tone, sculpt etc but that doesn't involve bounding around on our noisy floorboards. Thanks lots for any suggestions!

As recommended on here ( by some sadist ) the Tracy Anderson Method Mat Workout, no jumpy abouty, dancey aroundy or bangin' tunes just a minuscule pouty blonde woman who wants to hurt you, all to a soothing soundtrack.

I've just discovered Fitness Blender.

A free source of exercise routines, all levels and types of sessions, in a really simple format - no annoying music or shoutiness. Just a fit person demonstrating on a white background and a voice over.

I'm using it to get back to fitness after a few years of degeneration, but there are advanced workouts as well.

ujjayi · 26/07/2012 00:04

Msarsebiscuit. I think I was possibly the sadist who recommended the Tracey Anderson workout :o

OP I have been doing this workout for 10 days now and I feel fantastic. It takes a couple of tries to master it, IMO but from then on it's as relaxing as a demanding workout can be! My bum has definitely lifted and my hips are beginning to change shape - smaller measurement from side to side as my glutes are pulling in, lifting and shaping up. My cellulite is also much improved (but I have been body brushing daily and using Soap & Glory's Sit Tight).

Ms Anderson is rather pleased with herself as evidenced by much pouting but I can zone out from that and just enjoy the workout.

PerryCombover · 26/07/2012 00:06

I also like La Anderson mixed with loony Gillian Michaels

GetOrfMoiiLand · 26/07/2012 00:08

Gillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones - it is strength and mat workouts, so no jumping about, apart from the warm up which Idon't bother with.

ujjayi · 26/07/2012 00:10

Ah now Gillian screwed my knees....now there's a mental image I could live without! Seriously, there is so much running and jumping movements in the Shred that only a sprung floor would provide enough shock absorption

PerryCombover · 26/07/2012 00:17

Try anderson also bonkers

Msarsebiscuit · 26/07/2012 06:31

So it was you was it, ujjayi ? It freakin' hurts - ' there are no squats, how hard can it be ?' I said to myself, and those arm exercises are just evil. I'm hoping that the pain equates to a proportional increase in foxiness.

ujjayi · 26/07/2012 07:43

Msarsebiscuit - :o

The arm section is still my nemesis! I develop severe Tourette's at that point in in the DVD and Ms Anderson becomes all the bitches under the sun :o. I find though that moving around the way she does offers some distraction from the pain in my arms, albeit a miniscule one!

It is amazing how much it works your body and changes it. Are you feeling any changes? (other than knackered?!)

ujjayi · 26/07/2012 07:45

I tried her dance workout DVD yesterday. I trained as a dancer and thought "this will be easy". Erm, not at all! I gave up after 10 minutes of trying to fathom the choreography. I just could not get it at all so will stick with the mat workout.

Msarsebiscuit · 26/07/2012 08:04

To be honest I thought I'd be fine with the arm exercises as my job is pretty physical and I have a fair bit of strength in my arms - oh my god, how can it be that hard ? It almost brought tears to my eyes.

I think I can just about kid myself that it's working, I seem a slightly different shape but I've only been doing it for a couple of days so I suspect that's unlikely. I think the chances of me attempting the dance workout are virtually nil - I have issues with moving my arms and legs at the same time, I go to Zumba and console myself with the knowledge that I'm not bad at the hip grinding. I am deeply jealous of anyone who can actually dance, I flail around sweatily at the back.

Msarsebiscuit · 26/07/2012 08:06

Forgot to ask, how long have you been doing the Mat Workout, ujjayi and how long did I take you to see results ?

ujjayi · 26/07/2012 08:16

I started to feel and see a change at around 7 days. As long as you are feeling it where she says you should feel it then you are working the right muscles and will see a change. And definitely working the control rather than reps - I don't always manage to keep up with her reps as I am focused on the control in the movement. It has given me a lot of confidence as my legs are my worst feature - I have awful circulation so I had awful cellulite and my arse looked like it was melting down the back of my legs Hmm. The difference has been quite marked. I feel confident enough to wear shorts now :). And at the weekend I tried on a heap of bikinis (trying to sort out my holiday packing) and I was surprised at how different the bottoms look - I compared now with photos of me in the same bikinis last year!

Msarsebiscuit · 26/07/2012 09:05

Thanks, ujjayi, I am very careful about the way I copy the movements, probably because I'm somewhat paranoid about injury ( I see a LOT of injuries in my working life). I suspect that unless Trace manages to turn me into Shakira, I won't be inflicting my bikini-clad arse on anyone ( I'm also no longer going on holiday, due to an utter knobnose of a man) .

Lottapianos · 26/07/2012 09:19

'Blast Off Belly Fat' is one of the 10 minute solutions DVD series - I love it. There is a cardio section but no jumping around apart from gentle jogging. It's tough but it really works.

mollysmum82 · 27/07/2012 22:34

Aw thanks lots everyone. I've just bought Tracy Anderson, looking forward to the pain.. Kind of..
