help me to wear a dress !

i wear jeans all the time except on hot days when i cant stand being too hot and i put on a sundress type of thing and flip flops.
i do have a few dresses , bought and never worn that have sleeves and are sort of not cool enough for a hot day but i would like to wear them.
i look wrong in a dress and tights in winter somehow . i think because i am short (5ft 1 )
how do you wear a dress on inbetween days ?
what shoes , what coat ? (i walk everywhere). i want to be super stylish lol !

I think a dress and tights in winter can often look best with boots, rather than shoes. Eg: knee high boots and biker jacket; biker boots and denim jacket; smarter knee high boots and cropped trench. Or opaque tights and wedges can work.
