A trainer , sandals( shudder) a mule?

Can't get my dh out of hiking boots. I have told him that he cannot wear hiking boots to a beach resort or he'll look like a dick.
Suggestions please........:0)

Sandals. Why are sandals (shudder)?

You can get sandals from hiking stores, that might make him feel better, e.g. Merrell

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 13:25

Because dh is a nerd( think Sheldon Cooper) and people would actually see his feetShock . He won't wear them. Personally I think they're ok.Grin

trainers / flip flops

susiemumof · 19/07/2012 13:26

Trainers/flip flops/ toms

BristolJim · 19/07/2012 13:32

Sandals are the summer footwear of kings.

suburbandream · 19/07/2012 13:36

Deck shoes
Flip flops only if abroad!

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 13:41

BristolJim he won't wear a sandal. The lack of socks makes him go a bit weird.
It's an affliction he has I suppose. That and taking enough cabling to build a network for an entire village in his suitcase.

'water shoes' - for doing watersports. Sort of trainer-ish but would be way better than hiking boots for beachwear.

(He wears sandals if walking around and flipfloppy things poolside)

GrimmaTheNome · 19/07/2012 13:44

Socks on holiday? then really will have to be trainers. At least he doesn't do socks and sandals - that would be bad.

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 13:44

And I get a man in a jumper and hiking boots at the beach. How did we live in Australia for 2 years FGS ???

miaowmix · 19/07/2012 13:44

birkenstocks, flip flops or converse.
Please no hiking boots anywhere near a beach!
Why on earth doesn't he want people to see his feet? Unfathomable!

GrimmaTheNome · 19/07/2012 13:46

Ummm... does he actually want to go to a beach resort for his holiday? What does he do there if he won't shed solid footwear? Confused

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 13:47

Water shoes might be a go-

Socks are ( apparently) like his comfort blanket- that and the arms covered at all times thing
< sigh>
Sometimes I pray for a rainy day do he doesn't embarrass the children.Grin

He reads his kindle and eats patisserie .
We go to France to my folks house. It is clearly not his natural habitat.

Boat shoes, Timberlands usually. He does have some non-Jesus sandals for the beach and v.hot weather.

I loathe seeing men in flip flops.

MrsPnut · 19/07/2012 13:51

My OH either wears a timberland trekking sandal or trainers with trainer socks.

He wears this combination during the summer with shorts at home and abroad.

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 13:54

What is the general opinion of an Espadrille?Hmm

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 19/07/2012 14:12

For a man? With socks? Do you really need to ask? Grin

You need to get him into watersports so he can wear wetsuit/rashie and windsurfing boots (like rubber socks, really) Grin

miaowmix · 19/07/2012 14:22

I don't mind an espadrille, or even a mandal , but please not with socks! Not familiar with this socks as comfort blanket thing, sorry, it makes no sense to me!

Cremolafoam · 19/07/2012 14:22

No was only joking tbh- dh would say that they'd just fall off his feet( he has magical feet allegedly - that cannot retain shoes unless strapped upon industrially and cover his ankles.)
[ despair]

Am looking at converse and similar now.
Water shoes are a nono aparently and have been vetoed by dh in a horrified text.Grin

Crocs by the pool , timberland deck/boat shoes/converse. Tried to get him into birkies but he laughed in my face

suburbandream · 19/07/2012 16:44

Crocs no no no no no please! I can just about bear them on teeny tiny toddler toes but not on grown men!!

GrimmaTheNome · 19/07/2012 16:48

If they've got to fasten up to the ankes I guess a converse-type thing might be best bet. Unless you get him to go for Hadrian's Wall chic - gladiator sandals (if they exist in his size) with socks!

GaryTankCommander · 19/07/2012 16:51

Mine wears blokey Birkenstocks. They look okay actually. That or flip flops.
