Hi, ive started job hunting as my maternity leave ends soon and I dont want to go back to my old employer. Anyway ive applied for a job but its through an agency, ive got to attend today to register (I think - ive never used an agency before)
What should I wear? My dh thinks jeans and a smart top but I think that may be too casual. I dont want to seem desperate Smile

I went to an agency last year and they stated smart business attire. I wore a suit but smart trousers and top would have been fine.

I wouldn't wear jeans. I'd dress for the job that I want - I don't think that's desperate.

Years ago I went for a preliminary interview at an agency for a legal job and was specifically asked why I was dressed in a smart casual manner rather than suited and booted. I did have a good reason and I ultimately got the job but I'm sure it would have been better if they hadn't had to ask.

I think part of the reason fro an interview with an agent is for them to give you the once over. After all, they don't want to jeopardise their relationship with an important client by sending them people who don't create the right first impression.

So I did what Sariska said, and dressed for the job I wanted.

They are absolutely giving you the once over; their job is to 'sell' you to clients and you want to give them the maximum to work with - also to convince them to keep trying for you should you not get this job.
I worked in recruitment, and it made it so much easier to see how the candidate presented at interview.
Good luck!
