What to wear to a christening?

Other than maternity/breastfeeding friendly clothes, I've not bought new clothes for ages. I'm going to a christening in a few weeks' time, so need something to wear. The christening will be followed by a BBQ at the hosts' house, so I don't want to wear anything that can get ruined by smears of ketchup! Also, I may need to bf whilst out, so don't want to wear a dress.

I was thinking of a dressy top and tailored 3/4 trousers and flats. I've got a few dressy tops already, but need help with my lower half! I'm a size 14 and 5' 8".

Oh, and I don't really want to spend more than about £30-£40 on the trousers.

I would normally say you should wear the same kind of thing as you'd wear to a wedding - in my experience christenings are quite posh

Have you got chance to visit the church beforehand to see what people wear? Do you know the style of the people holding the Christening/going to it?

What you are thinking of would be absolutely fine and fit in with what people wear to Christenings at our church.

Tend to be slightly less posh than weddings - no hats/fascinators/matchy-matchy shoes/bags/wraps etc. Just smart but comfortable
