I went to a wedding reception last night and...

...about 50% of the male guests were in scruffy jeans and creased linen shirts. Shock Many of the female guests looked like they had been gardening and had run out of time to get changed Hmm

Other guests had made a real effort and looked lovely myself included. Grin

Has anyone else noticed this 'trend'? Even hubby noticed and that's not like him.

Clearly the guests in jeans do not read the 'What shall I wear to the wedding' threads!

Can't say i've noticed but i would be a bit Shock

I've seen the odd person at weddings in jeans but think these tend to be evening only guests. I still think it's more appropriate to dress up/smartly though.

The guests in jeans were only there for the evening (so were we) but even so, if it were my wedding I'd have had a bridezilla moment been a bit upset at the lack of effort some people made.

The invitation was very formal so I'd have thought guests would have dressed accordingly!

Maybe they didn't have the money to spend on a formal outfit for an evening do? Lots of people are short of cash right now.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 15/07/2012 11:49

I'd always much rather my friends and family came :) I'd be mortified if people turned down invites just cos they had no money for clothes an out fit can be expensive and for one evening it's just not worth it. I'd want my friends and family to be there far more than I care about what they r wearing :)

yellowraincoat · 15/07/2012 11:50

Shrug. People put too much value on clothes. Who cares what someone else is wearing, it really makes no odds to you.

littlecupcake · 15/07/2012 11:53

I agree, I'd rather people came to my wedding than declined an invitation because they couldn't afford to buy a new outfit. But I would hope that they might have been able to dig out something from the back of their wardrobe that was a bit smarter than jeans!

I do think it depends on the guests, some came to our wedding in what I thought were rather scruffy outfits, but on closer inspection where obviously expensive makes and they did say they'd bought the outfits for our wedding (they were all guests from DH's side...). I think some people genuinely don't know how to dress for 'formal' occassions any more...

Loads of women wear jeans as there dressed up trousers now. Usually with heels and nice top. Not with their wellies.

LittlePandaBear · 15/07/2012 13:26

Maybe they felt bitter that they weren't invited to the whole day and decided not to dress up on purpose!

Not what I would do but wouldn't surprise me!
