dresses and nappies for babies

This is probably a really stupid question, but...

What is a baby girl (or boy, I suppose) supposed to wear under her dress? Obviously she has a nappy on, but should she have anything on over the nappy? Some shops sell matching pants with dresses, so no problem there. But what if she has a dress without matching pants? When the weather is cool, then tights, leggings or a vest/body suit are probably sensible, but what about when it's hot? I've never seen a shop selling plain pants for babies.

I think I am perhaps thinking too hard about this!

Good question. I want to know.

JennyPiccolo · 12/07/2012 22:12

You an buy plain pants, or a nappy is okay too. Nobody will be shocked that the baby has a nappy on Smile

BranchingOut · 12/07/2012 22:13

I think just a nappy is fine - it is what baby boys will be wearing under their trousers!

This is why I think babygrows solve lots of problems. Grin

My DD has a few pairs that have like you said come as part of a set and she wears them under dresses - I don't like her nappy showing not really sure why Hmm

Reusables with nice wraps is the way forward. Disposables require a cover IMO.

stressheaderic · 12/07/2012 22:17

Get thee to matalan for a 3 pack of frilly bum knickers for about £5. Cute as anything.

frankie76 · 12/07/2012 22:19

Mine just wore nappies I could never be bothered with the matching pants

Passmethecrisps · 12/07/2012 22:19

So, would you pop a wee baby grow on under a dress?

ceeveebee · 12/07/2012 22:23

Yes to frilly bum knickers. I have these for my DD

I don't like seeing nappies on show either

5madthings · 12/07/2012 22:31

yes i put knickers on my dd when she has a dress, you can get plain ones in john lewis etc, ie in white, dd also has some blue ones that came with a gap denim pinafore and they match lots of her dresses. she tends to have a vest on anyway under the dress but i like to put the little knickers on her.
dresses with matching knickers are the best! but i have some plain ones nad some with ruffles on the bum to put under dresses/skirts that didnt come with any! or else leggings or tights :)

happygelfling · 13/07/2012 09:43

Thanks for all the responses!
Sadly we don't have a matalan near us, but we do have a John Lewis. Not so cheap, but these look nice: www.johnlewis.com/27389/Product.aspx. The vertbaudet ones look nice too.

Actually, the matalan ones are a bargain: £3.50 for 3 www.matalan.co.uk/ProductDetails.ice?ProductID=49638.

I think my mum has a matalan near her....! Smile

Next sell them too, so do asda and tesco don't know the prices but I have had them from theses places before

LetsKateWin · 13/07/2012 10:18

I don't like seeing nappies either. I used to mix and match using the pants that came with dresses. I also bought some from Beauty and the Bib. They were lovely, but I wish I'd known about the pants in Matalan.

5madthings · 13/07/2012 21:11

they had some in boots today, in the sale! not in my dd's size unfortunately but worth looking in your local boots maybe :)

happygelfling · 17/07/2012 22:38

Thanks for all the suggestions. Our Tesco doesn't sell them unfortunately, but I will try boots. Thanks!
