I need a good everyday mascara that will make my lashes look thicker and longer

And I have approx £40 worth of boots vouchers to spend so could do with it being a brand they stock. I've always been seduced by the adverts for mascaras that allegedly make your lashes look longer but they never really work. So I thought I would ask here for recommendations - there must be one that does the trick....

I've been using loreals lash extension for 8 years, it's the one with the white undercoat.

I've tried ysl, dior, chanel and lancome before but I always go back to this one.

I do think it's trial and error though. Other people on here think it's rubbish.

Ask the beauty counter staff to try the mascaras on you.

Do you always curl your lashes? I bought the tweezerman curlers last year and they are much better than cheaper curlers.

germyrabbit · 11/07/2012 09:18

one i've always used (and have tried lots, though not v v expensive ones!) is max factor masterpiece max, it just lasts and goes on easily, costs a tenner

Loueytb3 · 11/07/2012 09:22

Fluffy - I've never curled my lashes - they used to be curly but they have gone straighter as I've got older. Does the undercoat take a while to put on? I'm going to have limited time in the morning to do it as I need to be out of the house by 7.30 with 2 kids.

Also - do you use waterproof ones or are they just normal ones. I will be going to the gym some days at lunchtime and I need one that won't run on those days.

I have this one It doesnt take very long and I walk around while I'm waiting for the curl to take. Or there is always eyelash perming.

It really opens the eye up and I think it makes my lashes look longer somehow too.

I use waterproof and take it off with baby oil at night, I rub it on with my finger and wipe with loo roll.

valiumredhead · 11/07/2012 09:55

Max Factor Masterpiece - the black tube is fantastic.

RoxyRobin · 11/07/2012 10:20

Like Fluffycloud I find the L'Oreal lash extension really good, though have seen it slated.

The double application method involved takes slightly longer, but the undercoat dries instantly so not much. Don't think there's a waterproof version, though.

I also quite like Max Factor Fusion False Lash Effect - it's lengthening and voluminizing. Again, don't think it comes in waterproof, though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/07/2012 10:36

There was a waterproof version, blue and white tube. I cant find it on boots website now. Good job I have a spare tube.

Bugger, bet it's been discontinued.

Loueytb3 · 11/07/2012 10:49

Maybe I could get 2 mascaras - one waterproof and one not and just use the waterproof one for days when I am aiming to go to the gym. I didn't know about using baby oil to remove it - have just used wipes in the past.

fluffy - those curlers look like torture!

Not painful at all.

Pinot4Pattykins · 11/07/2012 12:08

BEST: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Treatment Mascara. Treats lashes whilst giving uber length. I love it and have tried loads.

daisydoodoo · 11/07/2012 12:16

after years of using expensive mascarsa, i picked up a collection 2000 one in boots last month and its fab. its this one, www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk/eyes/mascara/big-fake-false-lash-effect-mascara.aspx

its not waterproof but i remove my makeup with wipes before starting a workout anyway as otherwise get really sore eyes.

NickECave · 11/07/2012 12:38

Another vote for Max Factor Masterpiece. I wouldn't spend more than a tenner on mascara as you can only use it for a few months before it starts going claggy. This one is really good at not clumping and the black is really dark.

valiumredhead · 11/07/2012 13:17

I like the brush on that one daisy I might try that, I hate the new types of brushes I much prefer a traditional brush.

Loueytb3 · 11/07/2012 20:46

Right - I've been shopping Grin

I have bought the Max Factor Masterpiece, the Collection 1000 false lash (£1 off so a bargain) and the L'Oreal Lash Extension. Fluffy - I bought the waterproof one so it is still being stocked in Boots. I used my points and managed to buy a shirt for DS3 as well so I'm happy. Now just need to try them all out Smile

I'm about to head off into town and buy the Collection 2000 mascara! Will report back later when I have tried it.

AnnaMosity · 12/07/2012 11:02

you want to buy rapidlash

missmiss · 12/07/2012 11:08

I like Bourgeois volume clubbing. It's super thick and only costs £11. The tube dries up quite quickly though.

NoWayNoHow · 12/07/2012 11:16

Another for Max Factor Masteroiece, and also Max Factor Fgalse Lash Effects. Both of them really good at lengtheninh without clumping.

NoWayNoHow · 12/07/2012 11:17

Sorry for the typos. Can you tell I'm on my phone??

KatoPotato · 12/07/2012 11:20

Benefit 'they're real!' mascara is the business! I have rubbish eyelashes, rubbish! This stuff works for sure!

cocolepew · 12/07/2012 11:21

Use the L'Oreal one first then a cheapy one on top.

Aquelven · 12/07/2012 11:23

I too like the Max Factor Masterpiece mascara but actually much prefer their 2000 Calorie one. It's one of their older ones but I keep going back to it as nothing else makes my stumpy lashes look as long & thick. It's cheaper than their newer Masterpiece & False Lash ones too.

daisydoodoo · 12/07/2012 11:24

Hope you like it now Valium :)

HelenofSparta · 12/07/2012 12:05

Max Factor 2000 Calorie for me. Have tried countless others, but this one is always th best for lengthening and thickening.

Loueytb3 · 12/07/2012 13:56

AnnaMosity I've been using rapidlash and its not really had any significant effect. I think my lashes have got slightly longer but not by much. I am definitely at the stage in my life where I need to wear a bit of makeup every day
