Please help me find a dress for DD's first birthday!

It's DD's 1st birthday at the end of August. I have been scouring everywhere for a party dress for her but can't find anything I really love!

She is average size for her age (possibly a bit on the slimmer side), so will depend on brand as to whether to get 9-12 months or 12-18 months.
I'm not too fussed on style, although I do like A-line stuff. It will be a daytime party, so needs to be a summery style, not a dark/sparkly style iykwim. As for colour, I would like to avoid pink! At least as the main colour, I don't mind a pink pattern on another colour... She has dark eyes and light brown hair and looks good in navy blue and red :)

I am hoping you will be able to think of places I haven't thought of/haven't heard of as I am running out of ideas from the usual places!

TIA :o

Ah, meant to say, am looking to spend about £20 but don't mind going up to £30 for something really nice :)

Have you tried TKMax?

EverybodysDoeEyed · 08/07/2012 21:58

monsoon have a sale on - look on their website - i find their stuff is really nice but I only buy in the sale!

Pelicano · 08/07/2012 22:03

Have you tried Jojo Maman, John Lewis or Gap.
I like a couple from each one - the Hula from Gap and the rose print is very pretty in real life from Jojo but it depends on your taste.

Oh yes, TKMaxx often have nice dresses for little girls and there was a really nice website linked to by another MNer but I can't, for the life of me, remember it. [helpful] it was quite £££ though.

RobinSparkles · 08/07/2012 22:05

Boots do some nice dresses sometimes too.

emsyj · 08/07/2012 22:07

I've just bought DD a ton of stuff in TK Maxx - they seem to be having a 'good week' in my local one! Normally I spend ages in there and buy nothing.

My ultimate favourite dresses are from Poppy - and they do last. I bought one (a sale reduced one) for DD for her 1st birthday and it still fits now - the tie waist style means they can wear them whilst too big without them looking too tent-like.

emsyj · 08/07/2012 22:09

There are dresses for under £30 in the 'Sale' section on Poppy by the way.

RobinSparkles · 08/07/2012 22:25

EmsyJ, it was you I was thinking of! Poppy, that's the one! :o

I love Poppy - want one of the grown-up size dresses, but fear I would not look chic & fun but like a big sack of potatoes Sad. Will stick to buying dresses for DD!

Any here? Sales prices in budget - but they are more pastel then bold...

Whilst a lot of their stuff is pretty Hmm, M&Co do some pretty little girls clothes. These dresses are lovely and in the sale.

Wow, thank you so much everybody, I knew you wouldn't let me down!

The Poppy dresses are beautiful, and lots of the others are lovely, but am having to reject most of them because they don't have the right size :(
I've looked in one TKMaxx (I'm rural, so not easy to get to actual shops, I'm better with online) but there wasn't anything in the right size. I should have started sooner and not worried about the cost, as it is because they are in the sales that I think there is no availability in the right size.

Have had a scour on ebay and have found the balloons dress from M&Co (had not thought of them at all, but there are some gorgeous dresses!) BNWT in 12-18 months, not sure whether to risk going for it, as I think it might be a little on the big side for DD. There are still some size 9-12 month stuff that is too big for her, I'm not sure if she is suddenly going to have a massive growth spurt in the next 6 weeks and I'm not sure what the sizing on M&Co is generally like!

Thanks again for all your suggestions :o
