New baby and need clothes ideas

My DS2 is eight weeks old now and I desperately need some things to wear...
I have put on quite a bit of weight this time (dared to weigh myself yesterday...no wonder my size 12 trousers don't fit!). Am starting to eat sensibly so hope weight will come off slowly but in the meantime, I want some things to wear-jeans, tops, trousers etc. Would like them to cover and support my wobbly tummy, allow me to BF and look nice.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Anyone? (As I go to put on my maternity yoga trousers again...)

I just got some cheap jeans from Dorothy Perkins, and a few matalan tops after having DS, I didn't want to spend much as I was hoping to lose my baby weight fairly quickly - although it's actually taken me a lot longer than I intended!!

I bought a few things 6 or 8 after my DD1 was born and it was a huge mistake - I kept slimming down and nearly everything was too big a month later and I had to eBay it later.

After DD2, I wore my maternity jeans for 2 or 3 months post birth. I invested in a few lovely nursing tops (you can also buy normal tops if you just prefer to lift the hem to breastfeed) and A-line skirts were forgiving because they are accommodating. Don't invest a lot of money right now - you'll regret it. Having very few nice clothes was a good motivator to continue with the weight loss (1 lost a stone after birth just by doing long walks with the pram). I got back into my pre pregnancy jeans in about 3 or 4 months and saved a lot of money that way ;)

I agree with others. Even though I really wanted to buy new clothes after months of maternity wear I wouldn't advise this. You are going to lose weight so what about persevering with smock tops and dresses as these can be worn without falling down unlike maternity trousers! Save the money for when u lose the weight which IMO is about 6 months a once all settles.

Do go and get one or two nice things to see you through this period. It will make you feel better. It may take several months (or longer) to get back to you regular size dressing in ill fitting maternity clothes is likely to make you feel like shit (it did me). I got a few cardis, a few skirts a few trousers and a few shirts.

I personally feel much better when I like the clothes I'm wearing even if they are a size or twothree bigger then I would like them to be.

I agree with hazchem, I'm 14 weeks in and have just bought some new jeans as the maternity trackie bottoms were driving me bonkers. I feel so much better for it! I got them from the Gap sale. Only £25 so not a fortune and I bought a couple of baggy tops in the White Stuff sale too.

With DD1 I was back in my old jeans at 8 weeks. Now I'm 14 weeks and I still can't squeeze into them. Did anyone else find this the second time around? Will I ever go back to my old weight? I'm breastfeeding btw, as I did first time around.

Oh and I forgot to add... I found charity shops really useful for when I'm in-between sizes as I don't feel so bad spending money and they aren't so crowded during the day time.

I've had 4dcs with an average of 20mths between them. Ive always bought gap skinnies to tide me over till I've reached my pre-preg weight. I always put on 20 kilos (9 mths of morning sickness and eating is the only thing that makes me feel marginally better), and a year to lose it. I also buy a couple of lose fitting tops or cardis to get me through. I've always held out and just had less clothes. This is my last dc and the problem is that now I am struggling to lose weight like I have in the past, and I guess after 4 sections my stomach is in bad shape. I do hope I manage to lose it as I have promised myself one huge clothes shop after seven yrs of constantly being pregnant or breast feeding!

Thank you for your suggestions. I am the same MarathonMama -last time I was back in my jeans by now. Wonder if I've eaten more being at home with a toddler all day?!

How about leggings and tunics with buttons to halfway?

littlebluechair · 07/07/2012 19:05

I bought a few m&s strappy vest tops to wear under normal tops, then I could bf easily/discreetly by lifting top up & vest/bra down - no stomach on show! Also these tops stil fine for non-bf wear so no money wasted.

I also bought a couple of decent pairs of jeans as it is miserable wearing saggy maternity stuff. I sold the jeans on ebay later so got about a third of the cash back.

I had one smart bf-ing top for when I needed to look together.
