Change of style / hairdresser?

Am thinking of having my longish hair cut short - into a mumsy bob i think. At present its so awful and annoying that I end up pinning it up off my face most of the time.

My usual hairdresser is away at the minute, but have been offered someone else to do the cut - would you trust someone other than your usual person to make a drastic change to your hair?

Or would a new person's viewpoint be a good thing (as my hairdresser has cut my hair in pretty much the same way since 1994 Shock).

Bit undecided...

Shameless bump...

would anyone recommend going from long hair to mumsy bob? or will I regret it?

I went from long to bob and detested it. It was too short to tie back and always in my face. So, within 6 weeks.....I had the lot chopped short.

Love it.

No hair dryer required. No faff. Wash, shake it a bit and it all falls into place.

I would say go for a new stylist if you've had the same cut for so long. A fresh pair of eyes might do wonders.
A bob is great, ask for the shortest you can go and still be able to tie it back (essential IMHO)

MrsRogerSterling · 29/06/2012 14:44

I would go to someone new. I think when you have been going to someone for a long time they can get a bit lax and just cut your hair on autopilot. Someone new should take a good look at your hair, face shape etc and be able to advise what length etc will suit.

As for a bob, I really like them and they don't have to be mumsy, think Megan or even Betty on Madman, both rock a good bob cut!

MrsRogerSterling · 29/06/2012 14:45

Madmen not Madman.....

valiumredhead · 29/06/2012 14:45

I would do it gradually if going from really long to short - maybe over 2 or 3 cuts.

shelley72 · 29/06/2012 16:38

ok, am going to take the plunge and see if they can still fit me in. Its just above bra strap level, so not too long valiumredhead but i agree justabigdisco i would still like to be able to tie it back for swimming etc.

Don't go mumsy bob. Go brave sharp bob, or short but long on top with a side-swept fringe. By definition mumsy bob is boring. If you think you'll want to tie back, just go short straight away or you'll end up with something that's neither here nor there. That'm my advice, FWIW

valiumredhead · 29/06/2012 18:23

I'm not sure what a mums bob is...

shelley72 · 02/07/2012 20:23

sorry i have only just come back to this. well they couldnt fit me in so im back with my usual hairdresser this week.

i am thinking of going for a bob that is longer at the front (collarbone length) but a bit shorter at the back. im not explaining it very well am i? i think i am a bit scared of going for anything too short at the front as i have a fat face and i am getting on a bit. jamie taht cut is gorgeous, but i am not as pretty as that and im sure it wouldnt suit me. my hair is also a bit kinky and so does take a bit of straightening so i might need a bit of weight in my hair.

actually, maybe the suggestion of someone new isnt such a bad idea after all...

Can't do proper link as on my phone, sorry

Twit · 02/07/2012 22:09

I like both those styles, do you think Scarlett's would work with brunette or does the blonde make it look nicer ? I'm thinking about going short as well..

Kennyp · 02/07/2012 22:12

My hair is a frankie sandford thing, i am twice her age and size but i love it and have had it like that for over a year.

I get mine cut by students. The trainer is bloody wonderful and i ask them if they can do anything new with it to keep it newer looking. Else its very short ovr one ear and longer the other side. Frankies is longer than mine on the short side

Loads of people say my hair looks nice (obviously i pay them £££££££ for the comments) so i am appy.

justabigdisco · 03/07/2012 18:42

Yeah twit I think brown would be nice too
