Help me find a gold 1950's style dress please......

I'm being a bridesmaid for a friend in autumn, I have to find my own dress and the colour code is gold (pale).
I'm 5'6'', have an hour glass figure and am a 12/14. I'm looking for a 1950's style dress, either a wiggle dress/ pencil dress or a classic sort of full skirted number....but am open to suggestions!
I quite like this fever one and this m&s one, this whistles one and I like this one, but possible too glam, and finally this all saints one.
I have to pay for most of it myself, itsno bother, as the bride is a really good friend, but would rather spend as little as possible as gold really isn't my colour, but don't mind forking out up to £150 for a really stunning dress that would get a bit of wear. I am definitely steering clear of anything too bridesmaidy (think Coast/ monsoon) .
ANy help from fashion gurus is much appreciated.

this in gold?

hackneyzoo · 24/06/2012 19:20

Edgar, that is gorgeous and exactly the sort of style I'm into, am just a bit nervous to fork out £150 without trying it first and have moved from the SE to the NE, so can't really justify a quick trip to Worthing. I love dresses like this, I know its the kind of dress you'd put on and feel amazing.

I have a picture of one on my profile. Pale gold and grey so no good I suspect

But you can't have it anyway! Ha ha! It's my mum when she and my dad were introduced to the Queen with my auntie and uncle. Just wanted to show you how beautiful she was Wink

EdgarAllenPimms · 24/06/2012 19:21

they mail them...

lightrain · 24/06/2012 19:29

Have you looked at vivenne of holloway? full skirted or pencil style though not in gold I'm afraid

hackneyzoo · 24/06/2012 19:30

Orm, your Ma looks amazing! What a beautiful dress, have you ever worn it?

Edgar, I just saw they mail them and for £20 you can try before you buy and send it back if its no good. AM going to mail the link to the bride and see what she reckons. Thank you!

hackneyzoo · 24/06/2012 19:32

Lightrain, I looked at V of H, and have a georgous polka dot dress from there already, but they haven't got the right colour. I really like the get cutie dresses too, but none in gold.

thanks Grin I managed to get into it when I was about 16. Not since then Blush Amazing what rationing did for you....

hackneyzoo · 24/06/2012 19:36

Love these dresses too Debruca, but can't find the right colour, think the bride wants it pale gold.

i think they allow a bit of movement on colours if you get my drift hackney. Worth giving them a try? Also you could get a local dress maker to run you stomethin up. Have a friend who did this and it was fab and reasonably priced for the amount of wears she got out of it, about £100 - that was in belfast about 2 years ago.

honeypieboutique.co.uk/ourshop/prod_651001-Audrey.html

Their swatches include gold shades. They have lots of 50s styles, not just rhe Audrey (my fave though)

EdgarAllenPimms · 24/06/2012 23:08

very beautiful Orm :)

Whirling Turban will do a custom fabric for you - but might be out of your price range. They are beautiful though. Here is an example of a gold dress. They do cheaper styles, but this looks like a 'luxury' fabric as it is a wedding dress.

www.unique-vintage.com have a huge range of 50s style dresses. I've bought from there before and can vouch for their great customer service and lovely quality.

hackneyzoo · 25/06/2012 09:21

emsyj, I've drooled over the whirling turban dresses before, I'd love one, but sadly beyond my pocket. Am liking the unique vintage stuff too.

Carole, have just emailed honeypie to see if they will do me a gold number....

Am eagerly awaiting swatches for the Babycake one too

I'm in a frenzy of dress desire now, they are all bloody gorgeous.....
