So what to wear to a masquerade ball?

So here is a challenge for you then. Due to another couple dropping out and us being billy no mates free, we are going to a masquerade ball next week.

Friend who dropped out has given me a beautiful cream and gold Venetian mask to carry Hmm

Does I have to go full length? The ticket thing mentions glamour and finery and other such terrifying words.

We are pretty skint so was looking at this kind of thing as it would do for a wedding in August too, but not sure it would be dressy enough.

Any suggestions please?

I'm 5ft 9, hourglass, size 16, winter.

TIA Thanks

Hmm, think the one you've linked to might be a bit casual for a ball. Usually I'd go for ballet or full length for one.

How about either of these?
Dotty P's in purple - you could easily remove the diamante and get it taken up for the wedding too
OK, probably not suitable for the wedding, but would look stunning if the cut suits

Thanks Moonlight, that green dress is gorgeous but out of stock Sad

I'm always worried about the maxi dress ship in full sail effect, but I think this will be the poshest do I've ever been to, so calls for full on glamour

Blast - sorry about that - I got carried away by the beauty of it so didn't check stock! You won't look like a ship in full sail.

Will toddle off and see if there's anything else I can find.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 20/06/2012 22:28

this is the same style as these, if that's any use.

In one of the more casual ties and with bit of cunning accessorising it should dress down fine for the wedding.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 20/06/2012 22:29

they do it in red and in purple too

MoonlightandRoses · 20/06/2012 22:55

Found another oneblue one-shoulder - definitely in stock!

Also, if you're near a TK Maxx - they often have something hidden in among the largely hideous bling that is their evening wear section.

TK Maxx!! How did I forget about them?!

Procrastinating I love those clever tie dresses but fear my back fat would be nicely highlighted by the straps digging in!

I love the blue one Moonlight.

Trip into town planned for tomorrow

Thanks all

Is there a hire place near you? Then you can really go over the top and adapt what you have for the wedding?

MoonlightandRoses · 22/06/2012 14:29

Afternoon Tory - did you manage to find anything yesterday?

shopalot · 22/06/2012 14:35

I would wear the one you linked too Tory but I would get a net underskirt and make it stick out and wear elbow length gloves and lots of jewellery to dress it up.

ToryLovell · 23/06/2012 13:11

Sadly not moonlight, a sick child meant no shopping, although I did peruse the Debenhams sale online and ordered this and this

Although I like shopalot's accessories approach

Ditto! - hope sick child has recovered. The second Debenhams one is nice too, but, if you're going short, then I think the blue you found first is nicest. Smile
