Best underwear for under clingy dress!

Just bought a lovely summer dress in soft jersey, but it's a big clingy from behind Blush. I love it and don't want to have to send it back - any recommendations on underwear/knickers to wear underneath?

ta muchly!

Has anyone tried the Gok Wan stuff? Hmmm, really want to keep the dress.....

I know it's a bit old fashioned but I'm a fan of a slip under clingy/slightly see through clothes. It seems to make them hang a bit better and gives an extra layer of modesty. nan face

I hadn't thought of that - I might give it a shot. Not sure if it will give me the kind of smooth line I have in mind, but I'll try anything. It's this dress:

Nothing? Grin

Spanx - it's the only way :)

Right, you have 2 choices IMO. Either go commando/ skimpiest seam free thong (and cope with the bum jiggle) OR buy some BIG no VPL full briefs like these m.marksandspencer.com/mt/www.marksandspencer.com/Pack-Light-Control-Assorted-Briefs/dp/B002F7BJ4C?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_6&nodeId=62805031&sr=1-6&qid=1340212470&pf_rd_r=0F9BA9070J5YQZRGQ710&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=62805031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3

I have similar ones and wear them under clingy jersey maxi dresses and skirts and they ahem 'hold' butt cheeks in and give smooth non clingy line. I also have tried a slimming slip too which are good, but a bit hot and sweaty for warmer days.

I find the m&S control full briefs finish just below my natural waist and I get flab escaping from the top = wah! Not good under thin jersey.

I would recommend spanx, specifically this www.figleaves.com/uk/product/SPX-234/Spanx-In-Power-Line-Higher-Power-Brief/?size=&colour=Nude

I reckon it takes a good 3lb off me & gives v clean line.

Thanks everyone. I have a pair of spanx (had them for years but they still do the job), but they are 'bike shorts' ones, and I was wanting more of a 'knicker' style. I tried them on under the dress last night and they look ok, but you can see where they end at my waste, IYKWIM. The dress is really comfy and smart/casual so I know I would get loads and loads of wear out of it....hmmm. Must try on again and also experiment with a slip.

thanks again!

My figure is by NO WAY perfect but...I do have one dress which I can only wear a bra with...the dress is too unforgiving for knickers and I've tried the lot. All shape wear distorts me as I am tall and the nipped in waist isn't my natural waist and there are bulges........so I prefer 'commando' Grin I quite like it really !!

janmoomoo · 21/06/2012 19:27

My friend has got one of these which she swears by. I want to try one.

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 19:28

Agree with MrsHoarder.

Cast your knickers to the wind (and try not to fall over).

Alishapez · 16/08/2013 10:01

go for shapewear underwear
