Holiday makeup- what's good and lasts a day at the poolside?

Just that really-we go holiday next week and I always envy the other women whose pool outfits match and whose hair and makeup doesnt look sweaty and smudged like mine. I always end up looking like the Joker's sister after half an hour beside the pool.
I don't want to be caked in slap a la Joan Collins but would like to look a bit more polished than previous bedraggled sweaty washed out featured photos of holidays past are evidence of. I was thinking of long lasting lip stain, tinted SPF BB or similar & waterproof mascara...
Any recommendations? Ta.

Shiseido Sun Protection liquid foundation is amazing. High spf, very water resistant, lightweight and comfortable, but still good coverage. You can buy it from Feel Unique online.

Bobbi brown does some great long wear cream eyeshadows, and her longwear intensifying mascara also excellent.
A tinted moisteriser also might be useful, with spf. That, over a good primer, and a splash of bronzer would work well.

I like tarte 'smooth operator' tinted moisturiser. I was going to switch to a bb cream but the woman in sephora told me this was a better product than any they carried. It's only SPF 20 though.

Clinique Lash Power mascara combined with a light swipe of Clarins Double Fix (which is a clear sealing type mascara) .The Clinique is waterproof on its on, but I like the Clarins because it just makes it last that bit longer till the next day if you're a slattern like me

Myscara. Mascara that lasts 2weeks.

this is a great little product for summer lips. You can pick it up, usually near the till at Boots. It gives you just a little bit of sheen and colour to the lips but it's not sticky.

A clear mascara will double up as a brow brush/tamer.

Eyelash dye (jet black) and some good eyebrow gel, a tinted moisturiser and and very light lipgloss is all you need around the pool. Plus a great manicure, great pedicure and perfect wax!

I never wear make up on the beach don,t think you need it.

Bonsoir · 20/06/2012 08:49

The beach is a bit different - some natural beaches (Greek island type) are just crying out for total communion with nature. But pools are often a bit glam, especially in southern Europe, as are some paying beaches.

The only foundation that really works for me in tropical (I used to live in Brazil) and Mediterranean heat is good old Revlon Colorstay. Won't smudge, won't budge.

Sensai 38 C mascara and Rouge d'Armani lipstick also stay on pretty well.

noddyholder · 20/06/2012 09:37

Oh god I would never like glam pool thats true! I am glad to be rid of make up etc on holiday I am more greek island than dubai

I wear a Laura Mercier concealor and often a bright lippy too. I love Nars Red Square which is quite matt but brightens up my face. Add big sunnies, factor 50 on my face and I'm good to go. I don't tan my face so need a good bronzer for evening and have found Nars Laguna the easiest to build up.

ENormaSnob · 20/06/2012 20:32

Do people really wear make up for swimming/sunbathing? Shock

NarkedRaspberry · 20/06/2012 20:39

Why not get your eyelashes tinted? Less hassle than mascara.
