Hats at weddings - yes or no

Got a wedding to go to. Not sure how posh it is - bride and groom are quite funky tho. Do I wear a hat?

Always a yes to hats from me.

AuntLucyInPeru · 18/06/2012 20:28

Is there a church and/or sit-down meal involved? If so, yes.

RillaBlythe · 18/06/2012 20:28

YES.

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2012 20:28

yes!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/06/2012 20:28

Yes to hat here too, unless the wedding is abroad in which case I don't because it is a PITA.

ceeveebee · 18/06/2012 20:30

Hmm. Hats can be a bit naff. If its a nice hat then yes. If its a cheapo coloured raffia thing then no. Better to hire a great hat then buy a cheap one imo.

blondiep14 · 18/06/2012 20:30

Any excuse! I love a hat!
I wore one to a wedding a few weeks ago - was one of about 6.
Probably the youngest tho. There were a fair few fascinators too.

Swatchdog · 18/06/2012 20:30

Absolutely yes here. And please wear an actual hat, not a ridiculous fascinator.

BackforGood · 18/06/2012 20:33

I love hats at weddings, but my experience over the last 4 years or so is that the only people who wear a hat now are the mother of the bride, mother of the groom, and anyone over 80.
Quite a few fascinators, or big flowers or feathery slides in hair, but it's rare to catch site of a hat. Shame, as I think it kind of makes the occasion.

ClaireFromWork · 18/06/2012 20:33

Anyone fancy helping me choose one then. here's the frock:

Was thinking maybe black or navy. Not pink.

Where do you hire fabulous hats from?

ceeveebee · 18/06/2012 21:33

I'm sure there are loads of places but I have been to local shops near my parents, here is one

Think there is also a nationwide one called Felicity but the one near my parents has moved or closed I think

I wouldn't go for black with that dress, it would be too harsh with the blue.

I tried a lovely pewter saucer in Debenhams recently (it looks a lot nicer than in the picture) which might work, or you could go for something ivory to pick out the lighter bits of the pattern?
