DH has just announced we're invited to a music awards ceremony tomorrow night (scottish version of the Mercury prize appara)...i am now in deep trauma. I've got no idea what to wear to something that's bound to be full of trendy young things, and i've hardly any time to get anything (live in market town with no trendy shops anyway). (i'm a mid 40s SAH mum, total scruff). any ideas???? plurlease!

Can you get something form Next? - it may arrive tomorrow...

This is nice Next dress

if it is Mercury Prize-ish rather than Brits / MTV awardish, then your finest jeans with your spikiest heels and a lovely silk top will be just fine. Lots of black eyeliner of course ;-)

next is a good idea...altho i'm leaving for the big smoke at about 4 tomorrow, so might not get here in time....

bobbifleckman, i've only got boyfriend jeans...maybe get some tomorrow - skinnies or flared do you think? oh god, its so not me...might have been me 20 years ago, but i'm such a scuzzball now

I am lucky enough to go to a lot of these, and dress code definitely veers more to the rock chick look than cocktail dresses and you can get away with more casual than you think - most people will be coming straight from work. I forget the name of the SNP MP who was in Runrig, but he's always scruffy as anything! (the men are likely to be black jeans with jackets, no ties. I really apologise if this is something strangely ultra smart that I've never heard of. Let me know the name of it and i'll check with my Glasgow music buddies)

No help I'm afraid - it's the first time it's run so nobody quite sure. If it was Mercury Prize, head to toe black and relatively understated would not be out of place at all, rather than cocktail dresses. There's some big tie up with the big art school in Glasgow so probably lots of arty types rather than smart. Enjoy, and report back!

No to anything from next, and no to flared or boyfriend jeans. Definitely go with skinnies.

right i've cobbled together an outfit from various people.... some short tweed shorts from Jigsaw and a brown polo neck, brown opaque tights and flat boots. i tried on a black velvet dress with morticia sleeves and high heels but it was awful and i couldnt walk. eeek! am very afraid....oh well will just have to drink....
