Cut off jeans as shorts, yes or no?

Had a big wardrobe sort out the other day and there are some jeans which are too big so I was going to charity shop them, but just wondering if they would work as shorts? Does anyone wear shorts cut from jeans anymore?
If so, what length and do I hem or fray?

I think it would be a good idea. I like the length and turn ups on these Gap shorts, or these if you want them a bit longer.

Ooh yes, turn ups, don't know why I didn't think of that, they look great. I'll have to experiment with length as my legs are no where near as long or slim as the models, but I think it might work!

i was thinking of doing this with some jeans I was going to get rid of.
I was thinking of making them a bit longer like these

DW has done this a couple of times. You can easily make skinny jeans into the longer just above the knee style, keepthechange, but if you want to make them shorter - like the Gap ones or even shorter - you'll need baggier, boy-friend style jeans to start with. Especially if you want turn-ups.

As long as you don't cut them so short that your arse-cheeks hang out. Unless you look like Daisy Duke, of course....
