Does fake tan cause insomnia?

gameboy · 22/02/2006 11:08

Occasionally I use a light fake tan on my face at bedtime (instead of moisturiser) so that I have a bit of a healthy glow the next day.

I also had a fantasy spray tan before a big black tie do before Christmas.

After any kind of fake tan I always end up having a really bad night's sleep - very restless.

Used tan on face last night and same thing happened...carp night's sleep!

Anyone else have the same thing?

your probably concious (sp?) of trying to sleep on your back so as not to smudge

try doing it in the mornings instead

your = you are

Given that the fake tan shouldn't be absorbed by the skin and get into the blood stream I can't think of any reason why this would cause insomnia.

I used to work in adverse drug reactions for boots the chemist....you wouldn't belive some that we had. One woman insisted that taking the contraceptive pill made her fall off her bike. Another insisted that a pain relief tablet cad caused a 'sudden dislike of salads' ' Shit', I thought, I've suffered that most of my life!'

As cod says, you are probably concious of it being on your skin

Blandmum · 22/02/2006 11:17

sorryt, as NP says, not cod

The only thing I can think is that it stops the skin from breathing and make me hot....

i apply johnson's holiday skin lotion every night in spring/summer. sleep like a log.

I have the exact same issue! I always thought it was because I was getting so hot with the product on my skin and it wasn't letting my skin breathe. However, I just read that a lot of fake tan brands use CAFFINE! Which makes sense, because if i have a coffee after midday I can't sleep, so I'm quite sensitive to caffine 😳

Its huge full moon may be keeping you awake. Try again next week and let us know!

@LargeMalbecPlease I'm not sure whether it would have been a full moon in 2006 when OP posted this thread
