are the cashmere shops I keep seeing just tourist ripoffs? or could I bag a bargain? fancy some socks and scarves!

Yes most will be 'made in china' tat. The ones that aren't are

Anta
73 The Grassmarket, (to die for!)

Belinda Robertson
13A Dundas Street, (ditto)

Elgin Cashmere
54 High Street, (bit more traditional, but genuine scots cashmere)

oo thanks PP! are there bargains to be had at these places do you think?

(am loving it here - we're at the castle in glorious sunshine Grin)

Not too sure on the bargain front! They can be pricey.

Ness on the High Street, its like a quirky Scottish White Stuff.

yellowraincoat · 05/06/2012 15:07

Do you like vintage stuff at all?

Go to Armstrongs on the Grassmarket, it's cool.

OwlMother · 05/06/2012 15:08

I'll second Belinda Robertson. Pricey, but such an investment purchase. I find ness a bit twee, but it does seem to be popular.

went into Ness, not my cuppa tea but there were some funky shops on Grassmarket that I loved (can't remember names).. will keep an eye out for the other shops mentioned!
