Citrusy perfumes that last

Hello,
In need of perfume help here, as I really feel like treating myself to something nice for the summer.
I love really fresh, citrusy fragrances but often find that once the top notes fade, I don't like the underlying fragrance. I don't like musky or woody notes at all on my skin.
I also adore a lot of classic eaux de Cologne (like 4711) but find that they fade really quickly. Does anyone have any recommendations for fresh, lemony perfumes that actually last on the skin?
Thanks!

Avoid Jo Malone. Have had several bottles including grapefruit and smell does not last. Beautiful packaging etc but expensive.

polyhymnia · 04/06/2012 08:32

Recommend Annivk Goutal Eau d'Hadrien .

polyhymnia · 04/06/2012 08:34

Agree on Jo Malone. Very overrated I don't like the grapefruit not really very citrusdy and it doesn't
last.

I'd second the Aqua Allegoria range by Guerlain, or the citrussy ones in it, anyway.

And there is a lovely citrus perfume called Mediterraneo by Carthusia, which is complex, with a big burst of summer in it. I think you'd have to find a lage department store to try it - definitely Liberty but I think John Lewis may stock it. I'm sure you could get it on the internet but that would be a "pig in a poke" buying experience.

I'm fascinated by the sound of this Spanish favourite. I followed MrsSchadenfreude's advice and found that it's sold by a London retailer, so I'm sure you must be able to do mail order from them. Rather tempted to do that myself ... all the reviews sound as though it's deeply embedded in the Spanish psyche in a completely Proustian way!

Chanel Cristalle Eau Vert

polyhymnia · 04/06/2012 14:39

Off to Spain tomorrow so am going go try to track down the Gomez one in San Sebastian if possible

Very few citrus perfumes really last. Most of them imitate eau de colognes and are refreshinf but fleeting. That includes Jo Malones and Dior's Portofino.

My best bets would be Dior's Eau Sauvage and The Different Company's Bergamote. And Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino.

Another vote for Miller Harris Citron Citron, although it doesn't last (you can boost it with the matching body lotion tho').

Jo Malone Grapefruit

Chanel Cristalle Vert.....love it.

FaneFeyre · 04/06/2012 21:16

I love Origins Ginger Essence skin scent. It has bergamot in it and is really sweet, light and citrussy. Maybe it does smell a teeny bit like ginger ale also, but in a good way! (since I always get compliments on it)

NickettyNacketty · 04/06/2012 21:22

Calyx. It was by Prescriptives. Now just produced under the Calyx name. I used to love it in the early eighties, mentioned it to a friend who very kindly got me some lastyear from John Lewis.

NickettyNacketty · 04/06/2012 21:23

Vetiver is nice too.

blueeyedpea · 04/06/2012 21:32

Eau d`Orange Verte by Hermes is lovely (a bit pricey), I put some on at lunchtime and can still smell it on me now.

BestIsWest · 04/06/2012 22:06

Don't know if you can still get it but Polo Sport Woman was very grapefruity and lasted quite well. I just layer L'Occitane Verbena.

polyhymnia · 04/06/2012 22:50

Miller Harris Tangerine Vert as well as their Citron Citron. And Annick Goutals Eau de Sud as well as their Eau d'Hadrien. Also like Dior Escale a Portofino. Would rather respray with something that doesn't last very long than wear anything remotely sweet musky etc.

Eau du Sud is one of my summer favorites.

Eliza22 · 05/06/2012 11:16

Chanel (for men). Their Allure Homme Sport - Cologne Sport.

I have it. Lasts well. Not "manly". Lots of women use it.

shoeprincess2 · 05/06/2012 14:08

I now have a shortlist:-

  • Chanel Cristalle Eau Vert
  • Allure Homme Sport Cologne
  • Annick Goutal Eau D'Hadrien
  • Dior Escale a Portofino
  • Miller Harris Citron Citron

Who would have thought it would be so difficult to find the perfect citrusy scent. I shall be researching over the next week!

prettybird · 05/06/2012 14:16

White Linen (Estee Lauder). Not sure if it is citrussy but lovely and fresh and lasts a long time (on me at least).

smokinaces · 05/06/2012 14:18

Another vote for clinique happy. I wish I had money for perfume, id start wearing it again, I loved it.

anniewoo · 05/06/2012 20:24

Don't forget Jo Malone Verbena , Shoe Princess and Roger and Gallet Gingembre and their other summer citrus scents sold in pharmacies and probably John Lewis.

gastrognome · 06/06/2012 10:58

Thanks again for all the suggestions.
I'm going to check out as many as I can this weekend.

Anniewoo, I like the Roger and Gallet scents but find them a bit woody/masculine sometimes. Having said that their Eau des Bienfaits smells gorgeous. Not sure if it lasts well however.

I have a huge big bottle of Eau d'Orange Verte which I love but it's been in my cupboard so long it must have gone off by now.

Very interested to try the Miller Harris, Dior and Annick Goutal scents.

Anyway I will report back!

Oh, and it's good to know that the Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrada is available online. For anybody heading to Spain in the near future, it's worth knowing that you can buy it from most pharmacies there (no need to go to a department store).

Another vote for cristalle - eau vert. I'm also hankering after aqua allegoria by Guerlain - pamplelune. Which is grapefruity and in my opinion lovely and fresh.

polyhymnia · 06/06/2012 15:13

Am in Spain now ( San Sebastian) so thanks for info on pharmacies will go and check out now !
