Cotton maxidress, T-shirt style

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/05/2012 16:01

where art thou?

Is the above too much to ask for? The shops/interwebs are full of cheap and nasty-looking polyester florals, jersey dresses, viscose dresses, maxis with spaghetti straps, maxis with no straps at all ? but all I want is a simple, cool, cotton maxi in a T-shirt style.

If you've seen one of these rare beasts, PLEASE come and tell me where!

Do you mean cotton jersey or cotton like a shirt?

scentednappyhag · 29/05/2012 16:05

I've been looking for one of these, but to mid calf length- no bloody luck for over a year Hmm watching with interest!

MissFoodie · 29/05/2012 16:05

Gap have loads

GnocchiNineDoors · 29/05/2012 16:07

I have!!

tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Oh....realises it IS t-shirt style, but not cotton

Hmm disappointed in myself now.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/05/2012 16:39

Gnocchi, I know, I got all excited about that one myself!

dexter, I mean like a shirt ? thin, summery cotton. For holidays in hot climates where it's also verboten to show leg. And with T-shirt sleeves and a not-too-low neckline, again for modesty but also just because I don't like to burn or tan my shoulders and chest.

PS thanks all. Smile

I saw some t shirt type ones in new look, but don't know what the fabric is like

chaosisawayoflife · 29/05/2012 16:55

These ones, just checked and 95% viscose though.

chaosisawayoflife · 29/05/2012 16:56

Any good?

dexter73 · 29/05/2012 16:59

Like this but not the price tag?!

GnocchiNineDoors · 29/05/2012 17:02

checked 100% cotton dress

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/05/2012 17:02

chaos, yeah, not sure about viscose. It's not as sweaty as some fabrics, but I think plain cotton is best in hot countries.

dexter, yes, a bit much isn't it?! I hadn't thought of Net-a-Porter though so will have a look for other stuff on there.

Did you see the asos one I linked to?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/05/2012 09:14

chaos, sorry, yes, forgot to comment. I'm a bit worried that it says it's 'body-hugging'; I'll be in India and will need modesty above all things! I'll have a look round ASOS for others though.

Gnocchi, thanks for that but unfortunately I am too tall and not winsome-looking enough to carry off the cute farmgirl look. But I hadn't thought of La Redoute, so will have a ferret round.

I asked for one of these a few weeks ago....

PerryCombover · 30/05/2012 10:02

here

HipHopOpotomus · 30/05/2012 10:33

The Gap one is in MODAL though, which is a really lovely natural fabric. If I was looking for cotton I'd certainly consider modal.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 30/05/2012 11:06

Isn't it a bit more slinky and body-hugging? I need, basically, a tent that hides my shape and comes down to the floor.

Good job I'm not going on holiday to pull. Grin

faustina · 31/05/2012 09:16

modal actually hangs better than cotton, and if it's the right size it skims, properly, rather than just that disappointing thing that too big cotton jersey does. Try it!

faustina · 31/05/2012 09:18

also - modal packs smaller (less bulky), washes and dries quicker, and doesn't fade in the sun (like a dark cotton would)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 01/06/2012 17:40

Oooh, brighthair, that striped one might be just the ticket. Thanks!

PS is your username Sherlock-Holmes- connected?

faustina, they are compelling arguments and in normal circumstances I quite like modal. I do wonder if it's QUITE as cool in hot weather as cotton though ... but I will try some modal dresses on!
