I now get a rash every time I wash my hair

I have always used whatever shampoo and conditioner was on special. Lately, my skin feels really irritated and itchy afterwards which then looks like a blotchy rash on my face and neck. Anyone else had this and can you recommend an alternative shampoo/conditioner? My hair is naturally curly/frizzy and dry due to regular colouring. Thanks

Can you go back to whatever shampoo and conditioner you used before this started to happen? I have recently had a dreadful rash from using the allegedly great moroccan oil products: it just seemed to upset my skin. I think it's very difficult to know how anyone will be affected by a particular shampoo. I've gone back to using the most moisturising tresemme conditioner (from tesco when it was on offer) and a moisturising anti-dandruff shampoo for sensitive scalp (either head and shoulders or boots).

sounds to me like you have developed an allergy to salicylates. Thats exactly how I react and only became sensitive to it in the past few years. Its quite hard to find products without it, you just have to read labels carefully. there is plenty about it online.

Yes! Then I discovered L'oreal Elvive anti dandruff - blue bottle/orange lid and I NEVER get it now, so I can only assume it's the shampoo. Wonderful stuff and leaves my hair in such good condition.

Sounds like the shampoo. This happened to my DH some time ago after using Pantene and I've not gone near it since.

Exactly the same happened to me. I now use Naked Bodycare shampoo and conditioner and have had no problems. I have naturally curly, frizzy hair with dry ends and have found their hydrating range brilliant. You can buy it direct online or from Boots. HTH

Naked was good for my scalp but crap for my hair - made it look like straw!

FanjoForTheMammasaurus · 29/05/2012 10:46

I get this when my hair is due to be recoloured, and it's not from the shampoo, i think it is because even "permanent" dye starts to wash out eventually and it irritates my skin, when I recolour it it gets better for a while then starts again after a while. :)

FanjoForTheMammasaurus · 29/05/2012 10:47

(which is probably not the healthiest idea I have ever had mind you!)

wishiwasonholiday · 29/05/2012 10:47

I get this and use tresemme naturals or tigi sls free shampoos.

valiumredhead · 29/05/2012 10:50

Fanjo I used to get it even when I didn't colour my hair though.

flipflopflap · 29/05/2012 10:58

I use Aveda Shampure, It's very gentle and doesn't irritate my very sensitive skin.

FanjoForTheMammasaurus · 29/05/2012 11:01

valium - yes it could well be the shampoo :) Or the dye, hard to tell with these things isn't it.

valiumredhead · 29/05/2012 11:02

I just wish I had discovered the Elvive stuff before, I have had YEARS of having a sensitive scalp with itches and bumps Sad

waitingforgodot · 29/05/2012 16:32

thanks everyone. Oh it could be the dye washing out. Will try elvive and see if it helps

I like Faith in Nature shampoos. I have frizzy hair and I get the seaweed shampoo.
