Ok, so I am middle aged Grin

But please, I have been internetting dresses all evening and I am getting nowhere. I am 5 foot 7, size 14, looking for casual summer dresses but not too young/old/strappy. Where should I be looking? TIA!

Depends on your budget tbh. Dotty Ps has quite a few pretty wearable dresses at the moment. If your budget is a bit higher then Damsel in a Dress, Phase 8 or Reiss have some nice dresses. Or White Company.

I bought a bandana style black dress from good old primark last year (I was 46). It had a strappy halter neck. I'm 5'7 and size 16, people commented how nice I looked on a night out (I'm usually trousers/t shirt dresser). I also tried on one a bit like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WOMENS-LADIES-MAXI-COIL-LONG-MAXI-DRESS-ALL-COLOURS-/220918343281?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&var=&hash=item7916017494#ht_2136wt_1059
But it was a bit tight, then I realised it was a size 8 on a 16 hanger. It would have looked OK if it was a couple of sizes bigger.
