I have been having my hair coloured every six weeks for about 10 years it is now pretty grey.

About two weeks after having it coloured the greys are coming through at the sides. Not sure percentage wise how much grey- getting on for 30-40% maybe-

My hair dresser has suggested I think about highlights- she reckons it will cover the grey better or at least blend it in better and though more expensive I won't need them done as often as my 6 week tint.

Those in the know -how often do you have highlights re done?
Does it disguise the grey better?
What about the condition of your hair?

I suppose I my main concern is that I will end up with loads of grey mingled in with highlighted bits....whereas at the moment I can see the grey but the tint covers it and I am good to go for another few weeks...and if I have something on... I can do a sneaky little root touch up myself..which obviously I won't be able to do with highlights

Also the time factor I spend about two hours having my colour done at the moment every six weeks..I know I won't need highlights done every six weeks but the actual appointment will take longer won't it?

My natural colour is dark brown BTW but my skin tone is very fair so could go lighter I guess..the cost isn't a huge issue either...

Sorry it is all a mystery to me!

Those in the know -how often do you have highlights re done? - every three months? If you didn't want them anymore the hairdresser could just put the base colour over the top to tone them down.

Does it disguise the grey better? - no, this is a myth. Your roots will still be as obvious. You will still be able to do a root touch up, although I don't like to mix home products and salon products - I imagine I will get horizontal lines of different colours. Grin
What about the condition of your hair? - just use a good conditioner and it will be fine.

Time wise, it won't take much longer than your usual colour does, I promise!
