Help! Need outfit for Christening and no idea where to start

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 21/05/2012 20:44

I'm going to a christening in mid June and have nothing to wear. It's a small do and won't be ultra formal but I'd like to look nice! Clearly in the UK we can't guarantee decent weather but I quite fancy wearing a dress (although I'm open to alternative suggestions).

Only trouble is I'm skint and have a very small budget (ideally under £30) so ideally it'd need to be something I could wear again. I'm 5' 1", size 8 and suit V necks and slash necks best but will consider any style. Favourite colours are turquoise, purple, magenta, red - I love jewel colours and definitely want to avoid black. Any ideas?

Could you stretch to 36 (reduced from 120) for this stunner?

TBH a charity shop in a posh area is absolutely your best bet.

I quite like that and love the colour but doubt I'd wear it again - I'm a single parent so rarely go out, unfortunately, and it's not suitable for work. I've searched my local charity shops and the only dress I liked was dark grey which doesn't really suit me. May try and check out the ones further afield, thanks for the suggestion.

florals allowed, or rather not?

What about the lace dress from Dorothy Perkins that was in the 'mumsnet swears by' this week it's gorgeous and £30. Can't link as on phone.

In fact dotty p's have some lovely dresses for around £30

They do! this is good

Asda have this turquoise lace dress for £25, I've just ordered it for a wedding.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 21/05/2012 21:18

I love the florals dress and the teal Dotty Ps dress! I could wear those to work too (in an office). Think I'll have to take a trip there and try some on.

I can see my next issue will be shoes - I only have a couple of decent pairs and they don't match either of those dresses. Might have to extend my budget and treat myself to a new pair of shoes. Then there's the handbag. And jacket. Shit, this is going to cost me Grin.

The Asda dress is gorgeous but limited to where it can be worn, I think.
