They are having a Jubilee street party at School next week & want all the children to dress up in a 50's style outfit. There's nothing much on Ebay so thought I might try & put one together myself Hmm
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated x

If you have access to a sewing machine you could make her a circle skirt - youtube has vids about how to and its very easy, basically a donut shape of fabric and a bit of elastic for the waist Smile

FauxFox, ooh that sounds interesting, will have a look on youtube.
Thanks

what about peddle pushers with keds, sleeveless (?) shirt and kerchief round the neck. I'm thinking Grease-ish but maybe you want something more English given the theme!

mrsharkness2 · 21/05/2012 17:00

Youtube vids won't load for me for some reason Hmm
What are keds? Don't mind if it's not English, just need it to be quite easy to put together Smile

The little 50's costume from here? You'd probably spend that much on fabric, not to mention the time and hassle. The earls are a bit, er, random though.

skirt and neck tie for 9 pounds here, several colours - you need to scroll right down. Would just need to add a plain t shirt.

circle skirt pattern here

Wide leg jeans or pedal pushers and gingham shirt?

Keds are a brand if sneaker, a bit like Converse but without rubber toe caps.

I'm a 50s (born) kid and for parties I used to have a party dress - with puff sleeves and full skirt and a bolero. Also, short socks rather than tights and shoes with strap/t bar.

White plimsolls, white ankle socks preferably with turn overs, circle skirt with lots of net petticoats, shirt tucked in and collar turned up, neckerchief.

Hair in high ponytail with a scarf/handkerchief tied round.

You can mock up the petticoats by sewing 3-4 rows of gathered net onto the bottom of a straight slip otherwise, a genuine one uses 84 yards of tulle...
