have experimented and think it either looks good or deranged

No.

I have very blonde eyebrows and a long fringe, so they don't show much anyway. On the occasions I have had it done by a professional, I have been underwhelmed and know I could not do it myself without looking like a clown!

Hopefullyrecovering · 19/05/2012 06:52

Roxy, did you know that you can have eyebrows permanently tattooed in? My SIL lost hers due to chemotherapy and they never returned, so she had them tattooed in. Apparently lots of ladies have it done. She is delighted with the result - they tattoo in fine hairs rather than a straight line IYSWIM. It will also save her lots of faffing around with pencils etc.

catinboots · 19/05/2012 07:02

I had my brows tattooed on because they were fair and scrappy. Best thing I've ever done.

springaroundthecorner · 19/05/2012 07:12

I went for a makeup lesson with a professional makeup artist last year. The best thing of all (and it was really worth the money so I would recommend it) was discovering I could take years off myself by filling in my eyebrows! I use a powder and angled brush as she said it was softer and more natural looking than a pencil.

I did a lot of 70's eyebrow plucking too. Big mistake.Sad

EmmaCate · 19/05/2012 07:14

For special occasions, yes. Leftover from my wedding splurge I have Bobbi Brown brush and dark brown powder - former sort of stiff and bevelled.

You have to be careful with the powder and dampen it down a bit on your hand before applying otherwise your brows look mentally dark, but it does a lovely job of defining.

I think I got the advice from the BB consultant; she said its softer than a pencil and does a great job of making your face look tidy.

lumbago · 19/05/2012 07:18

I recently got bb brush and mahogany eye shadow. Is ace.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/05/2012 08:28

I use a powder in a mid brown which is what my eyebrows are anyway and I just fill in the sparse bits. Looks so much more groomed.

TheGruffalosbitch · 19/05/2012 09:14

Gosh do a really good and cheap eyebrow set I tecommend

RoxyRobin · 19/05/2012 09:16

Hopefully - Yes I've heard you can have them tattooed, but I've always been afraid I wouldn't like the result.

Plus, I have a disease which gives me low immunity, and I don't think this sort of thing is encouraged. Still, if your SIL had them done in such awful circumstances it might not be as risky as I thought.

Bet it really cheered her up after her ordeal! People always dismiss such things as trivial but they really boost your morale and help you recover.

I have the Benefit brow zings and use it everyday, powder for daytime and the wax and powder for nighttime. My mum uses it too, she is blonde so never had great eyebrows but they are even worse ten years after chemo, she thinks it's great. Avon do one very similar, but I've had mine for 2 years or more and there's loads left so good value even at ?32

ENormaSnob · 19/05/2012 11:47

Yes, everyday.

I use the body shop brow stuff in dark, it has a small angled brush to apply.

My brows are v dark anyway but this just makes them look groomed iyswim.

Mombojombo · 19/05/2012 11:49

Yes - Benefit Browzing every day. I have very 'sharp' features (ie. big schnozz, fat lips and huge eyes) so my scrappy eyebrows look weird unless I make them as strong. I love a strong brow though, I'm sure some would say I was overdoing it!

winefairy · 19/05/2012 12:50

Yes, but only recently started and it does make a difference even though I have very dark brows anyway. And get them dyed to boot!

Had a mini make-up lesson in Harvey Nics and the assistant lightly pencilled in areas of my brow and I have to admit I was instantly impressed. I thought I had pretty perfect brows before Blush (only decent thing about me) but it did add something to my whole face.

I'd always avoided it for fear of Scouse brow too but my version is nowhere near as dark and it's only in certain areas. IYSWIM.

Kikithecat · 19/05/2012 13:58

I've just started dying mine with Eylure eyelash dye. It's really easy, takes about 2 minutes and you never have to bother with eyebrow pencils again.

itdidntworkout · 19/05/2012 17:20

I use a powder in black, but when applied lightly with an angled brush, it looks totally natural (dark brown hair).

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 17:24

i used to heavily pencil in my eyebrows, what was i thinking! i now go for the natural look, and a fringe!

peggyblackett · 19/05/2012 17:26

Absolutely nothing. Mine are prominent enough without adding to them . They would look like black caterpillars if made up.

sparklingportrait · 19/05/2012 20:38

A little eyebrow shape and tint in a good beauticians makes all the difference, I have used the eyelure kit inbetween appointments and it never has the same effect as the professional one, they can put it on and whip it off quickly depending on the colour/subtle effect you want...really would like to try the HD brows though......

justtryingtodomybest · 19/05/2012 20:45

I get mine tinted and then use Benefit BrowZings when the tint starts to fade. Although I'm getting HD Brows for the first time in a couple of weeks so will be interested to see what that's like.

KellyKettle · 20/05/2012 08:30

I have mine threaded and then use Benefit Brow-zings to define them and fill in patchy bits.

Imnotbatman · 20/05/2012 09:09

I get mine tinted

invicta · 21/05/2012 21:07

I'll be honest, I wouldn't know what to do, and don't really shape/pluck them either. I go for the 'natural' look!

louwn · 21/05/2012 21:55

Teensy bit of mac eyeshadow in charcoal matte applied with an eyeliner brush - just seems to make me look more 'finished'.

Walnut8 · 22/05/2012 06:51

I have had mine tinted a shade darker a couple of times (am blonde with blonde eyebrows) and was told by fam and friends they looked weird (thanks?!)
my friend fills her in, but is too heavy handed (which is odd as she is an absolute makeup ace!) and to me it always looks a little off balance.
So ... I guess it's like fake tan. If you do it properly it looks great and no-one notices. If you don't, it looks bad and is very noticeable!

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 22/05/2012 14:19

What are HD brows,please?
