Just wanted to know if anyone has used this and if it was easy to use and how much did you have to use it to get rid of hair. Did hair come back once you stopped using it? Thanks

I would be interested to know if anyone has had any results with this too? Or any similar home laser/ipl device?

I had laser on my bikini line and underarms - about 8/9 years ago. It has started to creep back - not loads but enough to epilate/shave before a baring. so would perhaps invest in a home method to get rid of these few hairs.

Sorry for hijacking your thread flow Blush

And does it hurt?

frazzlerock · 14/05/2012 21:25

Just spent a fortune on laser but it's growing back already courtesy of PCOS Sad

carrielou2007 · 14/05/2012 21:38

It's fabulous Grin.

I had ipl on my underarms about 6 years ago and it did nothing at all really, maybe slowed it down a little bit as when pregnant noticed I was shaving more but hey when you're pregnant my hair goes wild!

I bought this as I am blonde but have very very thick hair, if I have a salong wax within 5 days it is bad and I have to shave. I used to epilate a really good phillips one it was but could only do legs, not bikini and underarms pain was up there with childbirth

This is just fabulous. You have to keep using it as hair grows in cycles so it will never just go. Initially you do underarms once per week, legs once every four weeks and think bikini is every two weeks.

Then afte so many sessions you just do it sort of as and when to keep it at bay so to speak.

I really hate underarm hair, though I am blonde if I shave everyday I get a rash but if I did it every other I couldn't wear a sleeveless top and it just makes me feel yuk. Since using this there is no sort of shadow. I have only recently done my bikini and it does make my eyes smart a bit and can only do on setting three rather than five. No ingrowing hairs, just great, can't recoment it enough and is often on offer on Amazon.

carrielou2007 · 14/05/2012 21:40

Oh and no it does not hurt, when I had it at the salon the description of 'like someone flicking an elastic band on your skin' should really have been 'stabbing you with red hot needles on your skin' but this is fine. It is more tender on my bikini line and more so the week before I am due on.

RatDesPaquerettes · 14/05/2012 21:47

So the Lumea does not effect permanent hair removal then, even after a good number of sessions?

Due to go this week for laser hair removal at the sk:n clinic but I was wondering whether there would be a cheaper alternative. I am also a bit Shock to see Supernanny's comment that, after having had laser treatment, the hair is making a come-back...

carrielou2007 · 14/05/2012 21:50

No, nothing can totally stop it as you don't stop having hormones but it does really slow it down. ENough that I have to remember when I shaved my legs as running my hands over my calves don't give me much info!

I found that bikini and legs responded far far quicker than underarms which did take quite a bit longer to slow down.

TwoNoisyBoys · 14/05/2012 21:50

Ooh, I've wondered about this as well myself! I'm fair-ish, pale skin but with thick hair and wondered if it'd be suitable for me. Do you mind me asking which model you've got carrielou there seems to be loads out there! TIA Smile

carrielou2007 · 14/05/2012 22:00

I've got he one in the title but there is a newer one with a bit to use on the face but I don't hace a tache and my eyebrows are the least hairy part of me I think!! Mine was 280 I think on Amazon and in Boots was 400!! I was going to get the Boots one as get 10% off Boots stuff as get my contact lenses from Boots but not great reviews, you need to use gel with it every time and the bulb has to be replaced after 10,000 flashes and is about 100 quid. The Philips one shoudl last 40,000

flowwithit · 14/05/2012 22:05

Thanks this sounds really positive. I have been looking at it on and off for ages as its so expensive. I am sick of shaving and it takes ages to epilate also hurts too.

Is the pain of lumea less than an epilator please?

OP posts:
carrielou2007 · 14/05/2012 22:12

I barely notice it on underarms and legs and you know how an epilator feels around the ankle (ouch) really is nothing like it. I'm not saying that it really just is hardly noticeable. Bikini was as first used it on same setting as for legs and I almost shot 4 foot up in the air!

I just thought well if I have to use an epilator for my legs once a week it won't be that different and I used this a lot less and for far far far better results!

reddaisy · 14/05/2012 22:15

I have had laser hair removal done twice at a salon on my neck (PCOS) but it is also growing back. So something more regular and homebased might be on my shopping list soon too.

trixymalixy · 14/05/2012 22:46

Also watching with interest!

oasisinthedesert · 15/05/2012 11:55

never had any laser - is it quick or do you have to keep it on area awile to get the effect.
It sounds good mainly want for bikini - but that hurts or you had on wrong setting?
thanks

trappedInYorkshire · 15/05/2012 12:25

Don't post much, but I got the Boots skin so soft system in Feb, but the 2nd version of it. With the new one you get 20,000 flashes and it's been great. Also have PCOS and had awful hair on legs and it's worked really well for me, haven't had to shave legs for 3 weeks. I normally would have 5 o'clock shadow and would shave legs twice a day on holidays so very pleased with it. The gel is only £3, I stocked up on it the other day as it doesn't last long on large areas.

Have used it 8 times on my legs now, and really only little patches left that I've missed. Could see quite good results after 3rd or 4th time of using it. It was expensive, but I had a 10% off code, so got it for £320 instead of £350.

It is advertised as the only permament home one, not had it long enough to know how true that is though. I wouldn't say it hurts, but it does get very hot when on for a while, so best to switch it off every 15 mins or so to let it cool down and it's much more bearable. I'd definitely recommend it though, I'm due to move to Oz soon, so not dreading having to cover up on the beach any more.

MrsFlippingHeck · 15/05/2012 15:40

I've got the boots one too. I like it, only used it on small areas. Hair removal not permanent but hair is thinner and more sparse. You can't use it if your skin is tanned. It works best if the skin is fair and the hair is dark. The darker your skin the more heat it absorbs and the more painful it is (and less effective)

I've not used it for 12 months now (due to pregnancy and looking after a baby) and the hair is still more sparse and lighter. In looking forward to using it again soon.

savy57 · 15/05/2012 17:31

Does the lumea have the 4 skin sencors that must be touching the skin before it wi/l work, I've got the rio one but I'm finding it impossible to get all 4 skin sencors touching the skin so it works and thats with me pushing down really hard and marking all my skin its just not working

I have a Remmington IPL machine I bought this year from amazon. Doesnt have a face attachment.
It was 136 on an amazing offer. Can already see bald patcheson my legs after 5 uses also patches on bikini line. Underarms are proving to be stubborn =[

It came with three bulbs. I have had to change the bulb after the 5 uses - full legs, bikini line & both under arms. so quite a few flashes!!

Will save a lot of money in the long run, not paying for waxing / as many razors. Also much lesspainful than epilating and a lot quieter.
