broken gel nail, can't get to nail bar til Fri - how to remove?

I think it would be better to remove the whole gel nail, but don't know how to do that. It's sharp as well as unsightly and for work reasons can't get anywhere til Fri or poss Thurs evening. Any thoughts?

Gel nails are usually filed off, I'm not sure if Acetone works in the way it does for acrylic. Can you file it down until you can get to the nail salon?

Hi, yes, they normally use an electric file to remove. Will try with the coarsest file - I started soaking in acetone then decided to come ask MN first. Thanks, will let you know how I get on

"with the coarsest file I've got" - which isn't very coarse so not optimistic!

An electric file? that sounds awful!

Mine have always been files off by hand. Still, the last time I broke one, I just put a plaster around it until I could get to the salon because I couldn't be arsed with filing

Soak in acetone for 10 minutes x

HermanMumster · 14/05/2012 10:50

Put acetone on cotton wool, and bind to nail with kitchen foil ; wait ten mins and the gel will flake off easily.

acetone soaked cotton wool & foil did it, followed by filing/buffing/varnishing - thanks all. Now have an equally ignorant question re fillers on another thread here if you helpful ladies have any other suggestions. THanks x
